A look into the jagged heart of the North Cascades. The area around Cascade Pass is said to be one of the most rugged in the lower 48. After seeing this view, Dome Peak definitely climbed a couple rungs up on my priority list. I have a very short window to get out side this weekend, can't wait to send it as hard as possible with @lucaspete23 !
Prows of rock creating giant sundials as their shadows grow long across the glacier.

Lost in layers. Practically drowning in them. Finally got a chance to dig into my photos from this weekend and ended up staying way past my bedtime working on this one here leading to me being a little late for 6 AM shift this morning πŸ˜… stoked to hopefully unearth more gems when I get off this afternoon
Grateful to these majestic creatures for allowing us safe passage through their kingdom. Can you spot the marmot in the first image? That picture was taken from the minor highpoint we camped on night one, and I have honestly never seen more of these adorable little fuzzballs anywhere else in my life. We dug the summit register out of ice on top Glacier Peak and weren't surprised to figure out who was running the place 🀣 I've recently decided they may even be my spirit animal πŸ€”
Still feels like a dream. Sunday night was a dream come true, but it still hasn't really hit me that we spent the night (in an open bivvy) on top of the most remote volcano in the state. I knew coming into the week that I had Fri-Mon off of work, so the original plan for the weekend was some serious peak bagging w/ @lucaspete23 up near Cascade Pass. Monday night I got hit bad by a stomach virus, and while I tried to stay optimistic about the weekend, it wasn't until Friday that I started to feel better. My body clearly wasn't going to be able to handle our original ambitious plans but I still wanted to make the most of our 3 days. Tossing around ideas of how to fill them without pushing the envelope too hard, Pete bit hard on the plan for a "leisurely" ascent of Glacier Peak. We met Friday night to gather supplies and somewhere over my first real meal since Monday we decided a tent would be wasted weight, and that the summit would be a great spot to camp. Hell of a recovery weekend 🀷
Heading out towards that big white blob in the background. Still in recovery from a stomach virus this week, but I ate my first real meal last night so I'm feeling ready to get sendy w/ @lucaspete23 πŸ˜…
Protip: don't wait for Fall to take your golden larch pics, just wait for sunset! Actual protip: clean your camera lense more often than I do πŸ˜… had a great time last night scrambling ridgelines, soaking in views of the Stuart Range, and chilling on a mountain top watching the sun make it's slow descent across the sky. Is my hat serving as a plate for slicing up salami bread and cheese in the second pic? Yes, and it was delicious 😁
Ready for some more mountains in my life, one more day of work between me and the North Cascades 😎
Celebrating the most important birthday today: @lucaspete23 ! He's the OG red-blooded American hiking super hero we need but we don't deserve πŸ™Œ He's probably like 30 or something at this point and I'm pretty sure he's off in the North Cascades doing something lame like climbing a mountain so he won't see this and correct me 🀣 anyways I guess he has the same name as me and we've been on like one or a hundred adventures together so he's ok in my book. Here's to 50/50 odds he summits Rainier in basketball shorts this summer. Here are a bunch of pics of him doing more lame stuff in the mountains 🀷
Would you throw a backflip into a sea of golden clouds? Would your answer change if you knew your landing zone was a glacier and the run-out was a crevasse? More madness from Summer Solstice 🀯
One more from sunrise, alot of cool peaks and some interesting light in this one. In Spokane pretending I know how to play basketball this weekend and trying not to feel too sad about not being out in the mountains.
Jogging up the last bit of trail, the sun starting to light up the peaks around us, we tried to balance the need to make it to the top while there was still color in the sky and the need to capture the beauty around us as views started to open up. @lucaspete23 gave me a hard time for stopping to shoot this window, but I'm calling worth. Three Fingers all lit up πŸ™Œ would you have stopped?
It's noon thirty on an average ass Thursday and there is traffic on 1-5 πŸ€” (don't worry I'm a passenger posting this). Anyways I'd rather be in the North Cascades right now 🀷 Name this peak!
...just the tip... πŸ˜‹ first light in the mountains πŸ™Œ
More madness from Summer Solstice. Four different booters and who knows how many skiers and boarders. Not sure who they were (if you see this and recognize any of them I'd love to send pics their way) but all credit goes to the crazy guys and gals who sent it hard all day, even when a cloud rolled in and it went full whiteout 🀯
2:45 AM - the alarm goes off. We're in a tent at a trailhead on the side of the Mountain Loop Highway. @lucaspete23 groans, snoozes the alarm, and rolls over. I chug the coffee flavored energy drink next to my sleeping pad. By 3:30 AM we're on the trail hiking. At 4:45 AM our "shortcut" has turned into steep bushwhacking and it's apparent we'll be a little late for the 5 AM sunrise. All the sudden it's 5:30 AM we're standing on top taking in the first light of the day coming over Glacier Peak and it's all worth it πŸ™Œ Sidenote (🌈 lense flare is very dope, even my camera knew it was pride weekend πŸ‘Œ)
How did you celebrate the longest day of the year? Our time on this beautiful planet is the most valuable gift we've been given, and it's too precious to spend doing anything besides what we love. I joined the strictly unofficial gathering on Mt Hood to celebrate the art of sliding on snow and the Summer Solstice, and had the chance to see the most amazing display of aerial acrobatics. World class athletes threw down until the sun set for nothing other than the joy of doing what they love πŸ™Œ
Sunsets in the mountains πŸ‘Œ this is a pic from maybe my favorite sunset ever looking over McMilan Spires, towards Glacier Peak. Saw another pretty special one last night tho, excited to process pics when I get home 😁
