So honored to have worked included in this incredible book - Doll Hospital - an art and literature print journal on mental health. I cannot wait to read ! โœจโšก๏ธ๐Ÿ“•โœจ They have a digital version and printed version available. Check out their website @dollhospitaljournal @dollhospital
Finishing up a zine for the Philly Art Book Fair that @tipper_gore will be featuring at her table (Thks Chi!). This was loosely based on an interpretation of a line from a @jennyhval song - โ€˜accidental Sci Fi. โ€˜ I wasnโ€™t sure what I wanted to make at first but then a couple of images came to me and they seemed to have a sense of old and new themes about communication, distribution of information, fluidity, afterlife. #phillyartbookfair #accidentalscifi #fragmented
Iโ€™ve always felt overwhelmed when using color and never happy with my choices. Red to variations of pink have been an obsession in the past two years. This color - Cochineal - do you know it? Itโ€™s made of crushed insects and was once so valuable Americans searched shipwrecks hoping to find barrels of dead bugs. Although I wonder if they wouldnโ€™t be marinating in salt water. #cochineal #colorsareillusive #red #thesecretlivesofcolour #kassiastclair

Iโ€™ve taken a little hiatus from social media this past month bc of my job and the stress it was causing and how itโ€™s been a real struggle trying to balance any kind of studio practice with full time work- made harder when youโ€™re in a toxic environment daily. I finally made the decision to leave and move forward with some changes so that I can focus more on this project- Hot House- and my apartment gallery @finalrestingplacegallery. Super grateful for support and love from friends in this time ! This a view from my drafting table of a couple pages from an artist book Iโ€™m working on about Hot House- images are collected from my neighborhood train station, McKinley Park, websites, and books from the Chicago Public library regarding Chicagoโ€™s history of parks and public health among other things. #artistbooks #hothouse #chicagoparks #plants

Iโ€™ve been interested the connection between humans, plants, and air for a while- I recently met a botanist who I asked about this process and they said that the marine plants are responsible for largest share of the oxygen that we breath- algal plankton, phytoplankton, and kelp. ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒŠ #kelp #breath #marinelife
While reading about the history of housewarming parties I came across an article about pineapples being brought as gifts by rich Europeans to parties. European colonists observed people whose land they were colonizing and pillaging in the Caribbean putting pineapples outside their homes to welcome strangers. The gesture was stolen and is why we see pineapples in hotel decor. To add insult to injury the pineapple became not merely a symbol of hospitality but prestige as only the wealthy could afford the fruit and would use it as a status symbol. I had no idea and Iโ€™m fascinated by the use of plants in all contexts- this drawing was partially inspired by a botanical painting of a pineapple. The image of the house is of the Dunmore House in Scotland. The atlas obscure website has more info. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ#pineapple #fruit #inhospitable
