I have been a little mia lately due to getting pretty sick. I am almost done with my antibiotics but I wanted to share a piece of my mind when it comes to the age old question of training while you are sick. - Chances are that sometime in the past, or in the future you will get run down and become sick. First and foremost never train with any type of respiratory issues, but anything other than that here are a few tips.. - -Adjust the intensity Your immune system is fighting off sickness, so you most likely won’t be able to train at the level you were when you were 100% healthy. Cut your 60 minute workout to a 15 minute workout and isolate only one specific muscle. - -Force feed your body You are going to have a suppressed appetite while sick, force feed your body so that it can recover properly. Avoid any type of processed foods! - -You won’t lose your gains like you think! It takes about 2 weeks to start lose about 10% of your power but even after 6 weeks you should still have very minimal loss in muscle. You will appear to be smaller however due to losing water in the muscles and a loss of glycogen. You will appear as if you have “lost all of your gains.” But that is not the case, unfortunately these numbers are a little different depending on your fitness levels, for my bodybuilders out there, you will lose muscle much faster considering you are at a higher level physically. Many people are so focused on getting bigger arms by training biceps, but the larger muscle and majority of your arm is coming from your tricep muscle. Increasing the size of your triceps will give the appearance and illusion of having much larger arms as oppose to neglecting them and focusing on biceps for arm size like most people do. Time under tension! Grab about 60% of your max 10 rep weight and try this method out. A great finisher to an arm workout; a lot of people are not concentrating on the biceps in a bicep curl. Squeezing at the peak of your bicep curl can help develop good mind muscle connection and help to break through possible plateaus! Try this on your next arm workout and give a short 2-3 second hold, it will increase blood flow to the short and long head of the bicep.
