Let’s talk anger that comes from trauma. A lot of times when someone has been through some intense shit that caused them to become over worked or over stressed our brain starts figuring out defense mechanisms. One of my defense mechanisms as well as many others is to push down emotions. To protect my situation I learned to fake it to make it! There wasn’t a day in my childhood where I can even remember anyone asking me “what’s wrong”. I pushed everything down so far I wasn’t the slightest bit on edge. As I got older, the more that added up the less of an emotional feeler I became. When I tried to love it turned to hatred. The slightest words I would feel the need to jump back and have a come back. I remember fighting because I didn’t like the way someone looked at me. Anger from trauma comes in stages. Stage 1) we take it out on ourselves, we hate ourselves, we want to torture ourselves. I remember just wanting to bleed because the pain made me feel alive. Stage 2) we take it out on the people we love by piling our issues over on to them, getting mad when they don’t understand, snapping for no apparent reason, making up things in our mind. Stage 3) black outs when we get upset, adrenaline taking over and losing control, doing things we would never do while being ourselves. Stage 4) hurting live things to settle your anger, sometimes killing or torturing.
Let me tell you a quick disturbing story about my anger at a young age. After 2 years of being raped by my father I became angry. I didn’t realize how angry I was at the time. I seemed fine. I was playing outside with the 4 little kittens we had from my brothers cat. They wouldn’t shut the fuck up, so I picked them up and put them into an empty ice chest. I closed it and left them there all day. The next day I went out to play and I opened the ice chest and saw the kittens lying there stiff, full of sweat. I didn’t even shed a tear. All I could think was to hide them so my dad wouldn’t find out, so I put them into a dresser in the shed and left them. At the time I didn’t realize how mad I was at myself or him. Anger goes unnoticed with PTSD! Just get them help!
I will not give up the flowers in my heart for stones just because the world is a hard place.

I’m barely holding it together here. I refuse to hide how I’m feeling. I refuse to act as though moving through my grief is easy or that I’m going to heal quickly. I refuse to feel ridiculous because of how heartbroken I am over the loss of my cat. I loved him as though he were family. He was to me! We adopted him in January 2016, when he was 1 or 2 they thought. We were living in FL at the time, and had had two cats we moved there with. One suddenly died in November, and our other cat was bereft without him. We adopted Goose because we didn’t want Merlin lonely anymore. I wasn’t ready for another cat. I felt like I was betraying the loss of Weenie, who’d died just two short months ago. I told my husband to choose the cat, and that he’d be his. He chose this beast of a black cat who was pushing all the other cats aside to get at the canned mackerel. He jumped up on my husband’s lap, and that was it. We had to take him home. And somehow, over time, Goosie became my cat. Yes, he loved everyone, and was great when the kids were babies and toddlers. But he was mama’s boy. When I sat down, he was in my lap. When I woke up, his face was the first I saw. We were besties. He was a fucking asshole to the other cats sometimes. An asshole to other people sometimes too. But he was my asshole, and I fucking loved—still love—the shit out of him. I was powerless to stop him from dying. Believe me, I’d make him immortal if I could. But I will take those feelings of powerlessness, and I’ll flip them in their head. Your death will not be in vain, Goosie-Cat.
