"Progress is the outcome
of the work we put in.
The first time I tried a side plank, both feet stack, it felt daunting. I was shaking, instantly sweaty, and had to place my top foot to the mat for stability over and over. It was exhausting! But I kept them in my practice.
About 8 months into my practice, this lifted leg variation came up in a challenge I was participating in. I was so worried- did not think I’d be able to try that! But I gave it a go- falling more times than I can count. A good 20 minutes later, I found some stability and barely managed to grab my big toe long enough to extend. But that hip refused to lift.
Again, I was shaky and sore from all the work, but I tried! I kept coming back to this variation for challenges over the month and found more and more strength here.
One day, someone recommended I try placing my foot flat and creating the heart opener here- she suggested I had the strength and should try! I definitely didn’t think of much of myself then as she did (thank you @om_yogi
- I’ll never forget that!) but decided- what do I have to lose? A few falls and adjustments later, I had something that somewhat resembled the shape. And was shocked!
But over that time, I had been consistent with my practice. Daily vinyasa practice- even if just 10 minutes of sun salutations, and longer practice when I could because it felt great for my body. As that time passed, I found new flexibility and strength I never knew I’d be capable of.
I am so grateful for this community and all the inspiration, motivation, connections and confidence I have found through my practice and this community. So thank you all- I can’t say it enough.
