Love Poem for Yoga:
It is earliest grayest morning but I do not mind
I rise like the window shades and unroll the mat
bending to touch faint slats of floored light
searching under closed eyelids until I find breath
slow inward roll and throat brushing outflow
First choice of the day is my mind's condition.
While my movements strengthen body's condition
they serve as moving meditation for the mind
only muscles ever remember transitions and flow
forehead, toes, and fleshy palms can recall pressing mat
the place inside my chest (or skull?) only remembers breath
and the familiarity of feeling heavy while feeling light.
I keep my cadence slow and landings light
twisting for far reaching poses on the condition
that I never quicken, forget, or abandon my breath
which must always live near the front steps of the mind
while my hands and feet make steps on the mat.
When I am still, I still must ebb and flow.
Asana reshapes bodies like rocks in a river's flow
but for yogis that current is a white light
which connects you in a circuit with your mat
until you are able to short out ambient condition
and cross the front steps into the house of the mind
into a parlor that is kept and cleaned by breath.
Reminding you that no one is homeless, is breath.
Everyone must answer the door to that same in-out-flow.
When all else is lost, still stands the house hosting mind,
where in the parlor window on dark nights, turns a light
reminding you that you are not lost but in human condition
and that definition can be found on a rubber mat.
It matters not when, where, why, how you find your mat
only that you do. For there we see the full breadth
of ourselves and how we influence another's condition.
Our circuits connect in parallel series of electric flow
and our currents combine to keep hearts light
and are only ever disconnected by lack of mind.
I lay still on the forgotten mat until I summon an easy flow
of shallower breath that paces the brightening morning light
I will my conditioned heart to prevent the erosion of this mind. ••• #mind #mat #light #breath #flow #condition

Sometimes life is hard and you look back and say to your self I should of done this I should of done that. All you can do is find a goal and work on it that’s it. 💪😀
Pilates vs Yoga
So which to do? The happy answer is: Do Both! ☺
In my opinion, the differences between the 2 methodologies make them complement each other in the best possible ways.
Pilates helps us become more connected to our spine and help strengthen the muscles that support it in neutral, while also working on making it more flexible in a dynamic way through controlled articulations.
Yoga on the other hand, concentrates mostly on large movement patterns, increasing overall flexibility and mobility.
More and more yoga practitioners are finding that Pilates's focus on building a strong core helps propel their yoga practice into new realms. #truestory

Stretching is a large part of my workouts & indeed my every day life. 🙌
Even at home, at work, at the shops & out & about, I often find myself doing some sort of stretch to release tension, keep my flexibility up & keep any muscle pain away. And it feels sooo good to stretch— holding a stretch for a min 20 secs can be quite blissful & peaceful for your mind as well. .
It may not look like I’m doing much here but I’m actually doing one of my fave stretches. It’s a multifaceted stretch which mainly stretches the hip flexors, but also stretches the thigh adductors & lower back. And my arms get a bit of a workout too—
holding my feet as close as possible to my groin, pulling up on them to gain more flexion in the hips & adductors... & pressing down at the same time with my elbows to open up the hips. By leaning forward this stretches the lower back & top part of the glutes.
This is probably a very clumsy description so I hope you all get it! 😀 Maybe someone with more experience or a fitness instructor can come to my rescue. 🙏☺️
But my main message is that this is a damn great feeling stretch, but one which I don’t see many people do..
It also helps so much with mobility & flexibility in many general exercises AND in every day life, eg...
Going upstairs, having to side step something, getting into & out of the car, sitting on the floor to play with children 😍 👶 ..
I don’t want to be stiff & inflexible, hunched & slow in my older age as this can lead me to be more injury prone but also it does not look healthy and happy! So that’s why I religiously stretch every day!

Eating good quality, nutritious food; gym membership; quality (nasty-chemical free) skincare, makeup, & home cleaning products; protein supplement; personal training; yoga classes; meditation app; running shoes, etc.
But what about doctor’s visits, specialist appointments, medication, preventable visits to allied health professionals, hospital stays, lengthened hospital stay due to complications/hospital acquired infection (yep it happens!), time off work with no sick pay left, time spent sitting in waiting rooms (because time is also a commodity)
As I left work last night I was thinking about the patients I had cared for that shift. All were diabetics. The majority Type 2. And all were in there due to issues that are a direct result of the awful effects of diabetes. Did you know this is actually a largely preventable disease (type 2 DM)
Anyways it got me thinking about this very quote...where would you rather spend your hard earned money? What would you rather spend your time doing?
Why not change one or two things this week that leads to a healthier you, a healthier future for you & your family 🍃
