If your brain was a person, would you be friends with it? You can make or break your future just by how you talk to yourself. I’m not normally one to write long thoughts on Instagram but just had to share this time. If you’re a twenty something and feel the struggle of having lofty goals but lack the daily drive to get it done I FEEL YOU. But remembering that we are only 20% through our whole life brings me back to reality. To me it doesn’t mean step off the gas but it reminds me to not be so hard on myself. Allowing my dreams to change and grow over time has made a huge impact on finding happiness in everyday life. Finding a balance between still having fun adventures and grinding out the work you have to do to accomplish your dreams is key and takes a while to actually get a rhythm down, which tbh I’m still learning how to do. Most of us feel the same way but talk to each other as if we have everything figured out. Why? I am guilty of this but we all need to just speak the truth, you never know how that could affect someone and how they may have needed to hear someone’s vulnerability so that they feel free to open up. And if you haven’t found your “thing” yet, I promise it’ll happen soon. Only a few months ago a good friend told me that sometimes your true dream comes out of the most directionless times, which is exactly what happened to me. Ps. I’m in love with this crew. It’s easy to give up when times are rough or when your body aches, but that’s when you need to get outside your head and get it done. 12 years ago I was in a serious car accident that left me with a compressed spine and serious soft tissue damage which landed me in rehab 5 hours a day, 5 days a week for over a year and a medical folder a few inches thick. I have scar tissue running along each side of my spine from the mid thoracic up resulting in chronic pain and stiffness. I’ve seen every type of doctor there is to see and never found any lasting relief. That is until I starting working out consistently! I love back day for the sheer fact that I know I’m gaining strength with every workout, and not only that I am in less pain the more I train! I still have days where it hurts to get out of bed or when I’m more stiff than usual but those days are farther apart than ever before! 🙌🏼💪🏼👏🏼 #backday #fitmom #rehab #oldinjury #chronicpain #strongereveryday #nottodaysatan #selflove #yeg #yegfitness
If you don’t look this happy when you lift weights, I would definitely suggest that you experiment with other forms of resistance training like body weight exercises, CrossFit, trx, kettle bell etc, until you find something that you genuinely enjoy.
It will be so much easier to stick with it and get the results you want, when you find enjoyment in your resistance training.
P.s. I don’t always look this happy when I’m lifting weights, but I do enjoy every minute of it.
1. Have a plan for post show! Give yourself 24 hours and jump back into some sort of plan (most likely with your coach) and be realistic about it. But if you fail to plan you will fail.
2. Keep your coach! They have got you this far. They know you and your body. You are at a very vulnerable time and very few people actually can relate. They might be the only person who understands and they have the education to get you back in a more optimal place health wise.
3. Even if you mess up or fall off track, continue to check in. Accountability is key. Plus your coach can’t help you if they don’t hear from you.
4. If you over eat or don’t stay on track do NOT restrict or do extra cardio. You are not in prep and you are human. Do not punish yourself. Get right back on track, be honest with your coach and move on. You got this.
5. If you track macros put your last meal in first. Make it something that you enjoy and satisfies you. You’re less likely to go over if you actually look forward to your last meal and end the night with a full belly.
6. Don’t hoard food. Buy what you can eat. Food will always be there. Keep buying your staple foods and keep your house full of reasonable options. The less temptations the easier it is to stay on track.
7. Plan things to look forward to! Date nights, going out with your girlfriends and family events. Those are the moments to eat more freely and have untracked meals because you’ll appreciate those memories more then eating cookies in the pantry by yourself at night. I promise.
8. Be patient with the process. Be kind to yourself. This is hard. However if you can prep you can reverse!
