Deadpool 2 comes at a time in which In a world of weekly school shootings Comics, Movies and Video games are blamed for most the demographics ills- and fittingly Deadpool resides comfortably in all the above. He is a character teenage boys and man children relate to- above even Wolverine & Batman, dealing ultraviolence with a joke, killing yet somehow a hero, but somehow never struggling with all those pesky emotional trappings of anger or regret. He is free of consequence. Here is a character who can deflect nearly any amount of pain, psychically and certainly physically with humor. He is completely self aware and fourth-wallbreakingly speaks to his audience across mediums- through the screen. That inclusion is something socially rejected/awkward types desperately seek.
I always took more to Cable, Cyclops time lost prodigal son who came back to our time seeking to save that which was lost. Here he plays to the theme of one man's worth- constantly jumping through time righting wrongs, preventing dark alternate futures. An arbiter of regret and justice for those wayward villains or antiheroes if need be. Often with violence, overwrought gravitas and a utter lack of humor. This is what brings them into conflict.
Hailing from a future where that same lost boy ends up a super villain, Cable returns to end the boys tantrums before he has the chance to become a living WMD. I've always believed that the best empathy developer was tight bonds of belonging to a family and being given a divine sense of constructive purpose. I suspect that is what most the villains of our day lack, that culture of compassion and the hearing of their grievances. This is the struggle of adolescents- the rude awakening that adults have their own flaws, hypocrisies and failures. Becoming an adult occurs when you can forgive them and perform that same damage control on yourself. We start to see that maturation in Wade himself as he effectively becomes a father figure to this boy while contemplating his own family. Proving we are only truly made wise when teaching someone else the error of our own ways, for the sake of a brighter future. #deadpool #dp2 #cable #domino #xforce #wadewilson #art
