In a remote, secret laboratory tucked away in the Colorado mountains, senior researcher Francesca Stein-Tom was comparing a digital bill of lading to the inventory of newly arrived mice. “BALB C- 15 on hand, Black 6-10, D-2 --- 20… Very good! Very good!” Brown, black, and white mice, tightly packed in a tiny brown box with tiny holes, were squeaking helplessly.
-Igor! – Dr. Stein-Tom called her assistant who instantly appeared in a skimpy lab uniform that she had picked out for him and that revealed his big muscles. —Put these materials in Room #3
. I will need them for my genetics research.
-What are you going to do with them, doctor?
- I will create an embryo from a human and a rodent cell, impregnate a mouse with it and expose the mother to constant radiation!
-What is the purpose of this experiment?
-Purpose? Advancement of SCIENCE, of course!!
-But doctor, we don’t have any human cells in our disposal.
- How about we just use yours so as not bother with the protocols! You have some good genes, —and she grabbed Igor’s arm and scraped the surface of his hand with a scalpel before he could object.
It was dark in Room #3
, and Dr. Stein-Tom shut the door behind her to contemplate her fantastic creation in solitude. Three tiny newborn mice with patches of nude skin were crawling around the cage on the table. “My darlings!’ she exclaimed “Finally! I will name you Jerry 1, Jerry 2, and Jerry 3. You will make me famous, maybe even immortal! Mwahaha! Mwahahaha!”
