I’ve been doing a day of eating on my stories today!!! Go check it out! What I’ve learned so far is that I don’t always pack enough food for work and that I eat wayyyy less when I’m busy. I end up cranky and starving at dinner time when i don’t eat enough throughout the day and actually documenting my eating helped me realize this even more. Even when we are extra busy we need to make sure we are fueling our bodies adequately. I could’ve just used one extra snack earlier in the day to keep me going. Anyways with that being said, this is my giant dinner tonight 😋 I cooked zucchini and sweet potatoes in my cast iron skillet in attempts to keep my house “cooler” and not use the oven. I made a quick power greens salad with some avocado oil & balsamic from Italy. And my favorite smoked Cajun salmon. I’M SICK & TIRED 🙅🏼‍♀️of diet culture & the power it holds over so many people 😅 ______ I’ve got a news flash: Dieting ISN’T the only way to be healthy. In fact, it’s not healthy at all! Why?⬇️ 1️⃣ The more you diet, the slower your metabolism becomes (despite all those magic foods that you were convinced boosted your metabolism). 2️⃣ For 5% of dieters, dieting leads to eating disorders or disordered behaviors. 3️⃣ Dieting actually reduces your self confidence & self-esteem because when your diet fails you, you blame yourself, rather than diet culture. 😬 ______ The biggest issue I see with diets & diet culture is that it causes so many people SO MUCH unnecessary stress 😬 ______ The norms that diet culture has created, like the idea that we are a better person if we have 6 pack abs or that the less you eat the more “self control” you have, etc...lead people to feeling like they are never truly good enough 😓 _____ I want to remind you: YOU HAVE NOT FAILED DIETING! DIETING HAS FAILED YOU 🙌🏻👏🏻 _____ It took me a long time to realize it, but when I did, I gave up dieting for good and became an intuitive eater 🤗 ______ TRUST ME, it wasn’t easy. It wasn’t easy to give into foods I had forbid, to see my body change, and it sure as hell IS NOT easy to speak against diet culture. BUT, it’s all worth it 🙌🏻👏🏻 _____ It feels so DARN good to stand here and say, I am not a slave to diet culture. It feels even better to see the memories I’ve made after ditching it 🙌🏻 ______ If your fed up, then STOP. Dieting is NOT helping you. It’s hurting you. It’s time to create a healthy, happy future. No it’s not easy, but trust me, it’s WORTH IT! 🙌🏻 ______ You deserve to live a life free from dieting 🙌🏻❤️ ______ Just a few eats from today. Didn’t snap them all. RECIPE: Fire Cider 🔥👊 This should be something we all should start brewing in the Autumn months in preparation for the winter bugs! Fire Cider is long standing recipe that works fantastically to ward off the winter colds and flus. It may not be pretty but packs a powerful punch! Ingredients 1/2 c grated ginger 1/2 c grated horseradish (or 2 tbl powder) 1 med onion, chopped 6-10 cloves of garlic, crushed 1 jalapeño pepper, chopped Zest and juice of 1 lemon 1/4 -1/2 tsp cayenne pepper Apple cider vinegar 1/4 c raw honey, or to taste Additions - turmeric, rosemary Instructions Chop and prepare all roots and herbs and place in a large glass jar. Pour ACV over until it covers all pulp and nearly reaches the top. Store in a cool dark area to ‘brew’ for about a month. Shake daily (don’t worry, NOTHING wants to grow in this magic mix). After a month, use muslin cloth to strain out pulp (be sure to squeeze out goodness). Add your honey to taste and store in glass bottles in the fridge for up to 6 months! Natural flu remedy sorted! Who knew BBQ could be light, healthy and taste SO GOOD! We got a Traeger Grill last weekend, when they were on sale at Costco, and have been looking forward to trying new smoked meat recipes. Jeff found an easy pulled pork recipe that we brined overnight and smoked almost all day. I can’t have a pulled pork sandwich without coleslaw on top, so I found a really easy recipe on the @weightwatchers app (Lemony Coleslaw with Apples) and another easy side from @skinnytaste (Instant Pot Baked Beans)! Our friends brought over sangria and the delicious peach and cucumber salad and we had a feast! Les cuento una pequeña historia. Esta semana me tocó a mi organizar la noche en familia y luego de ver un video en YouTube de @buzzfeedtasty no logre sacarme de la cabeza el hermoso proceso de hacer pizza en casa. Se los recomiendo pero les advierto que se les va antojar 🤤. Prepare la masa ese día en la mañana y salió perfecta, seguí la receta tal cual. La salsa de tomate la prepare con tomates frescos pero no le agreguen cucharadas de sal, son cucharillas jaja 😅. Para los toppings puse un poco de todo, prepare dos quesos a base de nueces. Ricotta y mozzarella (que le sacó una carcajada a mi hermana cuando se la mostré 🤪) pero eso si derritió muy bien el horno y quedo deli. También había mozzarella “normal”, pesto de almendras amazónicas, alcaparras, cebollas caramelizadas, champiñones, rucula, albahaca fresca, ah y tentáculos de pulpo y sardinas. La parte más divertida fue formar la masa para las pizzas, no es tan fácil como parece y por eso mismo fue la razón para muchas risas. Mi mamá hizo su pizza artística con forma abstracta, mi papá relleno los bordes con queso, mi hermana la preparo bianca; su favorita. Yo prepare una margherita y otra bianca que parecía cultivo de plantas según mi papá. Les recomiendo experimentar en casa con comidas que uno suele salir a comprar. El compartir es la mejor parte aunque no queden tal como las de una buena pizzería. Espero que les guste leer posts así y a diferencia de la narradora en el video de Tasty si conocen a alguien que no le guste la pizza, digan me para que le cambie de parecer. Gracias por leer 💛
