๐Ÿ“˜Have you heard the story about the fat loss turtle and the fat loss hare? Here is how it wentโ€ฆ (by @bodysculptorben ) . ๐Ÿ‡ The fat loss hare got sucked in to a quick fix scheme whereby he was allowed to drink 2 meal replacement shakes and eat one meal a day. He was in a huge calorie deficit each day, which made him feel like crap. The Hare would do countless hours of frantic cardio daily and was burning himself into the ground. . ๐Ÿข The fat loss turtle however was smart and followed and listened to @bodysculptorben ๐Ÿ˜›. He was eating real food, tracking his calories and eating plenty of protein. He was in a slight calorie deficit each day. The turtle was lifting weights and doing no cardio initially. The turtle felt great. . ๐Ÿ“‰A few weeks went byโ€ฆ the hare had lost a considerable amount of weight! The turtle however had only lost a little bit but things were still moving in the right direction. . ๐Ÿ“… A month went byโ€ฆ The hare lost even more weight. He was extremely exhausted, he was underperforming at work, his relationship was on the rocks due to his short temper and snappiness. The turtle was still losing weight slowly, he felt super and life continued as normal for him. . ๐Ÿ—“ 3 months went byโ€ฆ The hare was starting to put some of the weight back on. He was eating normally again and had come to the realisation that drinking 2 shakes a day and replacing meals sucks! The turtle was looking great, he had lost a fair bit of weight and was starting to look pretty ripped. He continued doing what he was doing, eating real foods and tracking calories. . ๐Ÿ‡ 1 year went byโ€ฆ The hare was now on a new diet, some sort of cleanse diet and was looking pretty much the same as the previous year. He had also lost a considerable amount of muscle mass, had a slower metabolism and lost strength. . ๐ŸขThe turtle was now BUFF and had been accepted to join the ninja turtles. He was lean, he was strong, he felt and looked great. He was now eating more food than ever and still getting results. He didn't feel guilty about tucking into some pizza with his new pals Leonardo and Raphael either, but was a little concerned about the talking rat. . ๐Ÿ˜‰ Moral of the story? Be a f***ing turtle. .

It felt soooo good to start my day with a great workout with my girls before a long road trip! I used to be so anxious about doing things in front of others and failing, let alone posting things about myself..... But I am NOW so thankful and blessed by this healthy lifestyle I have found.... more than I could put into words... Feeling strong and confident are two things I never thought that I personally could or would have. BUT here I am, putting myself out there!!!! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’ƒ WHAT and HOW did I make these changes you might ask??? Because I finally hit that pain point in my life that I had to do something. I had to finally stick with something and be consistent. I had to stop making excuses and instead prioritize my emotional and physical health as a high priority. Sorry my phone broke so could not reply to any of you โค๏ธ โ€œShe believed she could, so she did.โ€ And she worked damn hard for it. ๐Ÿ’I am the same girl who never used to stand in photos or never get clicked because I was too conscious of how I would look in those photos. I was too conscious of getting tagged in photos on social media. To be honest, I never saw myself like that (the person who was 95.6kg) because I knew deep within I was so much more. So much more than how my body looks, how my face looks so big, how I had acne all over my face (difficult to believe na?), nothing would fit me, I could not express my self, I was trapped in my own body. I was screaming for help. It was so bad. I was fighting my own self. ๐Ÿ’ƒBut what I learnt that no one else can help you. Yes there will be someone to guide you but you gotta get up and CHANGE YO LIFE! I was so close to ending things for myself (this makes my mom cry whenever I say this) but it is the truth. But in 2017, I decided, this year, I will be stronger, braver, focused and unstoppable. It was not easy, I had ups and downs but I made it. I was stuck in a rut. I was working out consistently but could not see the results. Letโ€™s be honest I wanted abs and could not loose the belly fat. Why? Because I wasnโ€™t consistent with my diet. I basically stayed relatively healthy during the week and would pig out on the weekend. A consistent diet is staying on your plan during the week and throughout the weekend. Yes plan your meals ahead of time. One of the main differences that separates my previous attempts at weightloss from my current success is this- falling in love with taking care of myself. In the past weightloss and "dieting" were a chore and exercise was a punishment. But when I replaced that mindset with a new desire to better myself, it developed into a new, healthy, permanent relationship with food and exercise, and in turn, weightloss. THROWBACK THURSDAY by @destinationnutrition - Remember, the picture I posted last week? The one of me from high school and then post college where I gained 70 pounds? I promised that Iโ€™d show a picture of me now soooooo here it is! โ€ข โ€ข Itโ€™s been a long, long road from my days in the beer industry. I spent approximately 7 years selling craft beer and it just wrecked my body. Iโ€™d eat out constantly. Why? I was living in Washington DC at the time so Iโ€™d take advantage of saving every penny I could. Eating out allowed me to save money on groceries because I could just go to an account and expense it. โ€ข โ€ข Over time, the meals out and the beers added up big time. I knew I had to make a change. Iโ€™d literally become a winded, sweaty mess walking from bar to bar even if they werenโ€™t that from from each other. I joined a gym. I got stronger, but didnโ€™t see much of a change in body composition. โ€ข โ€ข It wasnโ€™t until I changed my nutrition that I started seeing a change. I dropped 25 pounds. To take that further I hired a coach of my own. That helped me drop another 20 pounds. โ€ข โ€ข That picture on the right is me as of Monday morning. I still havenโ€™t reached my goals, but I will. Iโ€™m close. Fitness isnโ€™t a short term change. Itโ€™s the long haul. All of this has been over the course of a few years. โ€ข โ€ข Stick with it and I promise you can achieve the same. A lot of people dm me and ask me how I started, and how I got where I am now. Here is just a summary of my weight loss journey. Hope this can motivate and inspire some people! First picture (March 2015)- I was around 230lbs in this picture, and it was taken right before I decided to lose weight. This was the most overweight I was my entire life, and I knew I needed to change or I was going to keep spiraling out of control. To lose weight I cut carbs out for 3 months and was able to lose 30 pounds. Also during this time period I was doing 30 minutes of cardio daily, didnโ€™t really start lifting until senior year of high school. Second picture(August 2016)- This was taken a year and a half into my journey, I had lost a ton of weight and had gained a little bit of muscle, I was around 175lbs in this picture. I didnโ€™t document any of my progress the first year into lifting which I really regret, but I was just doing bodybuilding.com workout plans while eating semi healthy. Third picture (October 2016)- I decided to do a dirty bulk my freshman year of college and I was eating around 6000 calories a day, just eating anything and everything. I was around 207lbs in this picture. Fourth picture (February 2017)- This was taken right after I finished my cut. The dirty bulk was pretty successful and I gained a significant amount of muscle. I was around 185 in this picture. I think this was my beginner gains phase because I really devoted around 3-4 hours a day to lifting which was insane. Fifth Picture (December 2017)- I was around 190 or so in this picture. I was still lifting daily but I wasnโ€™t really watching my calories. . Sixth (July 2018)- Still watching my calories and eating very healthy. ๐Ÿ›‘How come your portions look so big when you say you're on a weight loss journey?๐Ÿ›‘ ๐Ÿ” I get so many messages from you guys asking me this question! Well, the truth is ๐Ÿ‘‰ I do Intermittent Fasting (IF). Now, there are many different variations of IF. I currently do 16:8 where you fast for 16 hours and eat in an 8-hour window (for example, 12:30pm - 8:30pm). The majority of time, it's actually a smaller eating window than 8 hours, to be honest, but anyway, you get the idea ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ” This means I eat fewer meals/snacks than the average person which is why I can afford to have bigger portions ๐Ÿฅ˜ and still stay within my calorie goals ๐Ÿ‘Œ. I skip breakfast and, when I'm working out, I workout on an empty stomach. SHOCKING? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ No, relax. I workout๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ usually by 9:30am or so. If I am doing it later in the day, say at 11:30am, I usually break my fast and eat a ๐ŸŒ before my workout, followed by a protein shake after my workout. I then make sure to have my dinner by not later than 7:30pm. Still works very well for me as it's still not too early that I end up ravenous at night ๐Ÿค“ ๐Ÿ” My meals (as you may have noticed from my food posts) are anywhere between 500 and 700 calories. Having two main meals a day (Lunch and Dinner), this leaves me with 100 - 300 calories for snacks. One of my daily snacks is my protein shake - Gotta feed them muscles๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘ Other snacks may be a few almonds/other nuts, a protein bar, or a packet of low-calorie, usually organic, chips. BALANCE, GUYS! โค ๐Ÿ” โš ๏ธHow do I know how many calories I need to eat?โš ๏ธ ๐Ÿ” Well, it's not an exact science but, lately, I have been going by @if_it_fits_your_macros calculator (which you can find on their site). I re-calculate every now and then as I lose more weight and my weekly activity changes. I was eating more calories before my injuries in April. I was working out 5 times a week then, between 45 - 60 minutes per session. Now, I'm working out 4 times a week, around 30 - 40 minutes per session ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ” CONTINUED BELOW
