Heart of a champion!!! “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me” 2 Timothy 4:7-8a What does it take to have the the heart of a champion? The heart of a champion is not what place you finish but how well you finish. Well I have had the opportunity to go up against Canada’s best yesterday in powerlifting and wow what a contest. I started off strong with my squat opener of 292.5kg (645lbs) to lead the charge. I missed my second and third attempt of 308kg (679lbs) which would have been a national record. On my 3rd squat attempt I heard a pop in my right IT band. It was certainly not what I was hoping to have happen but that was what I had to work with that day. It was sore like crazy and it reminded me of when I tore my left quad at the North American championship in 2016. Did I give up, certainly not because I had to finish the race and I wanted to finish well and remain faithful. I got my bench opener of 215kg (474lbs) and missed my second and third attempt at 220kg (485lbs). I was not sure how my deadlift would hold up with the injury but I managed to pull 225kg (496lbs) , 250kg (551lbs) and missed at 275kg (606lbs). My total was 757.5kg and that was good enough for the bronze medal. I was so pleased with my outcome and not just for the medal but for my attitude to the whole situation. God has blessed me again so that I finish well no matter what the results is. I have fought the good fight, finished the race and remained faithful and got my prize that was awaiting me. There is only 1 way to lose weight, that is to be in a calorie deficit meaning you burn more calories than you consume. If you are not losing weight, you are not in a calorie deficit. If you are losing weight, then you are in a calorie deficit. There is no way around it because it is a fundamental law of nature that energy is conserved. This law is called the Law of Conservation of Energy or the 1st Law of Thermodynamics. 🔥 🔥 Now a lot of people will say that they lost weight by cutting out processed food or by going low-carb or by doing the [insert fad diet here] diet. What all these diets have in common is that they indirectly create a calorie deficit by removing a food group and thus calories too. 🔥 🔥 Those diets reduce calorie intake. Some methods increase calorie expenditure. For example, a high protein diet is great because protein has he highest thermic effect meaning around 30% of its calories are burned off just to digest and absorb its amino acids. This means the food is increasing your calorie burn (but it's obviously not enough of a calorie burn to burn off all the calories it has). Another example is exercise. It does not cause weight loss, but it indirectly helps you achieve a calorie deficit by burning more calories. 🔥 🔥 So can you lose weight by going keto or doing any other method you heard about? Yes! But the mechanism through which it induces fat loss is through a calorie deficit.
