Hey guys! This piece is a special one. A little while back my friend @anne_sofie_x
's little sister got bullied for drawing a fire-unicorn. My friend and I didn't want her to feel like she couldn't draw or shouldn't draw, so we re-drew her piece (swipe to the side) to encourage her. And here it is! I'm challenging you to take part in this as well. Draw a fire-unicorn and tag it with the hashtag #letsdrawafireunicorn
to spread awareness and help other children who got bullied for drawing feel better. Anyone can draw! And if you like it, keep on doing it!!! Please join. Your art skills don't matter in this project, because it's not about that! Keep that in mind, guys! And if you really don't want to draw, consider sharing this picture. Just take a screenshot and let other people see. Thank you all very much.
Yesterday the last male Northern White Rhino, named Sudan, died after a prolonged illness. I had heard that these creatures were in a dire situation but seeing the news of Sudan's death shocked me into a deep realisation about the nature of human life on this planet. Whilst it is easy for most of us to sit in a place of judgement about poaching and the activities that led to the decimation of a sub species, our own lives and the systems that support our western lifestyles, are indeed part of the problem. It is easy to say 'this is so sad', 'how can this happen?' - it is more difficult to assess our own role in the great drama of global life and how that effects wildlife, habitats and ultimately leads to species extinction. It is all integrated, our ideas on wealth, on materialism, on ownership, on the value of scarcity and rarity - all of these things have led to this tragedy. I believe we will not change the world without a huge cultural shift in our values, and a fundamental change in the way we view ourselves in relation to the rest of life on this planet. 💗
I mostly keep this account positive and free of heavy truths but I feel I would be committing a disservice to the life of Sudan and the two female Northern White Rhino's that still exist if I were to not give deep thought to how we got here. I hope this has given you a moment to pause too, to reassess what destructive behaviours and ideas we reinforce through our own lives, and how we can change these for the better, for the benefit of all life on this remarkable planet. 💗
