One year ago today I walked into an empty vineyard and planted my first of many vines. I had no idea what was ahead of me. After taking a leap and moving to the Okanagan with no vineyard or winery experience, I was given the chance to prove myself. I worked full time in the cellar and I would spend my evenings and weekends working to establish this new vineyard. A 90 hour work week became normal and it was easy because I was enjoying it. Now as I look back on a year, the amount of opportunity and growth is beyond any thoughts I could have ever had for myself.
I have worked alongside and gathered knowledge from so many amazing and talented people. I have seen some of the prettiest sights in the country. Crushed 500 tons of grapes. Gone to college full time while working beyond full time hours and passed with flying colours, which brings us to now.
Now I sit at the helm of Canada’s largest Organic and Biodynamic Estate winery. Am I the most qualified person in the valley for the job? Not by a long shot. But I am willing to give it everything I’ve got to succeed.
There are several people that have been pillars along the way in my journey that helped get me here and not just on this side of my career. I can not thank them enough, without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Work ethic from my parents. Trust and responsibility from employers and coworkers in the many industries that led me here, and the people that helped push my passion with wine. Thank you all for the leadership. Now let’s see where a year can take me! Cheers to what’s next. 🥂
