Shoulders run pretty even for leg day when it comes to training for me. But posing for them to pop are hard for me. ALSO. Seriously need to get someone to video my workouts cause I busted butt today. Everything below was done in 40 minutes little rests and I focused on form. No throwing weights around people. Happy Flex Friday fam - another beautiful day here in New Jersey ☀️ I hit an awesome shoulders & biceps workout earlier 💪🏼💪🏼 Here's a little clip of one of my favorite exercises to hit the traps: upright rows. These tend to get a bad rap for not being the safest position for the shoulders, but as long as you have proper form, keep the weight relatively light, and don't have a pre-existing shoulder injury, it'll be totally fine 💯 A few pointers for maximizing this classic lift: . USE THE EZ-BAR: the straight barbell definitely puts more stress on the shoulders, elbows, & wrists. Most people find the EZ-bar much more comfortable. . USE STRAPS: lifting straps will help you hit the target muscles to their fullest potential before your grip fails. Definitely worth the 20 bucks 👌🏼 . CONTROL THE WEIGHT: a common mistake is to choose a weight that's too heavy, and then swing & heave it up. Use a weight that you can feel tension on your traps & delts, but that you can actually control. . KEEP THE BAR CLOSE TO YOUR BODY: The bar should start at the bottom with your arms nearly straight, travel upward as close to your body as possible, and go up to your chin (or at least collarbone). The further away the bar drifts from your body, the more stress it will place on your shoulders and lower back. . Hopefully these tips help! Definitely incorporate these on your next shoulder day and feel the burn 🔥 3-4 sets of 8-12 reps should do the trick! Soften your knees slightly, brace your core & keep your chest lifted. This postural set up will ensure you’re not tempted to “swing”. - 👊🏽 Grasp the barbell or dumbbells with an overhand grip (the width of your grip may change depending on the particular focus your coach has you working with). - 👊🏽 Think of your hands as hooks over the bar or dumbbell, when you raise the weight your your wrists flex downward toward the floor. - Coach @sheenajayne_fitness loves this one for the @team_heraxhero ladies but as female competitors in Bikini or Figure, we don’t want overly developed traps. - Some of Sheena’s extra tips for the ladies to make sure that their traps aren’t taking over: 👊🏽 Keep your shoulders down away from your ears throughout the movement. Barbell upright rows: The upright row is a compound exercise which can be done using either barbell or dumbbells. Compound exercises utilize multiple joint actions and, therefore, multiple muscle groups. The primary muscles involved in the upright row are the upper trapezius, deltoids and biceps. The upper trapezius and deltoids work together to elevate your shoulder girdle and raise your arms, while your biceps work to flex your elbows. It’s commonly used to gain medial deltoid or in simple language people do it to increase the size of their shoulders which creates a mirage of broad shoulders and narrow waist. Chest day turned into pretty much complete upper body I guess. New bench rep pr tho got 245x2 tried for 3 just couldn’t push it. Hit some shoulders with heavy upright rows 155x5 for a top set, 405x4 shrugs and an attempt and working on my lockouts with 545 I kind of got it but still didn’t feel right. After incline bench and flat bench my grip felt weak so I decided to use straps.
