My soul needed rest. My physical body was rested, but my soul wasn’t.
On the way to work yesterday, I was on the train, determined to find rest in the only way I know is possible—in Jesus! I was having my devotional time, reading scripture, worship music and praying, and as promised God drew near to me as I drew closer to Him (James 4:8). Deep in having my thoughts fixed toward Jesus, soon the train I was on would descend into lower ground where walls surrounded. On these walls was graffiti, and soon my eyes became fixed on this. My eyes were trying to focus on the moving images as it passed. A thought occurred, if I fix my gaze towards the sky, my eyes will adjust on a constant image. Little did I know God was wanting to speak to me in this. Just as I began to fix my gaze, the train began ascending to higher ground, and just as I was looking up, a cross appears from the top of a church!
You know, when we deliberately get ourselves more into God’s presence, the enemy will try what he can to distract us? And not only does he try to keep us from it, but as I was reminded, take us from it. That graffiti took my attention away from Jesus, and I had to again, fixate my thoughts back to Jesus.
Jesus is our constant. He never changes, unlike this world. We will have trails and tribulations, distractions etc, but be deliberate in your pursuit to make Jesus the centre of your thoughts.
As a result, my day was filled with true peace and joy, and the things that would have been effort, now became effortless. He can do the same for you! God is so good! .
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3
