The girl who did back to back fitness classes.
The girl who rewound to the hard parts of her workout DVD and did them over and over.
I was the girl who daily worked out for hours, who blacked out during cardio workouts and could hardly calm her breathing after hardcore sprint runs in the blistering heat.
Not that girl anymore!! Praise God for Christian counselling to help me heal from an eating disorder and addiction to exercise. Yes, even healthy things like exercise, too much of them, can be abused and used it harmful ways.
I workout less but am stronger now! I'm lifting heavier weights than before because I give my body and mind rest. Rest is not lazy, it's healthy and what strong people do. I get more out of my workouts and enjoy them more because I'm giving my muscles time to repair themselves before working them again. When you lift, you make tiny micro tears in your muscles. Resting allows them to repair themselves, this time stronger. Without that rest period, you just tear, tear, tear with no strengthening. Overtraining was costing me my life, it consumed me. It wasn't making me happy, I wasn't getting stronger (never could lift heavier weights) and I was setting myself up for physical and mental injuries. Excess time in the gym is unnecessary. 30 minutes is what I'm loving these days and I'm fitter and happier than ever before! People think you can't get addicted to exercise but you can. I've been there. If you see someone you love showing signs of being consumed with unhealthy amounts of exercise, talk to them. Show them this post even. You CAN be fit and enjoy your life. You don't have to exercise every spare minute to be healthy and fit. You are actually healthier with rest incorporated!
My fav workout currently is LIFT4. 30 minutes of weight lifting mixed with High Intensity Interval Training. I'm loving the 30 minute preview workout that was released. Thank you Joel Freeman for creating a fun, kick butt, effective and short workout program! So we can be fit but still do things other than just exercise 💪
HIKE, YOGA, PLAY THE GUITAR, RUN, WORKOUT, READ A BOOK, PHOTOGRAPH LIFE, COOK A MEAL, MEET A FRIEND FOR COFFEE, VOLUNTEER, DO ALL THE THINGS YOU LOVE & THEN DO THEM SOME MORE!❤️🏃♀️🧘♂️ 🎸
