When you’re frustrated as hell that the Celtics are playing like sh*t, you squat it out! Today was 80% squat day which translates to 7 sets of 5 at 310lbs. It took forever to get through the sets because after every set, I’d run to the tv and watch a series or 11... we need an act of God to claw back into this. Today was a great day! I checked the mailbox before going to the gym and @1stphorm came through in the clutch! When I saw that the #WeBackTheBlue T-shirt’s were in stock, I didn’t waste any time! I got mine today and the material feels great, the fit is incredible, and the meaning behind the shirt has sentimental value to me with me being a LEO! • • Today was chest day so I got my main lift knocked out of 80% benchpress 7 sets of 5. Crushed that, and added some good accessory work afterwards. What I did differently today was I finished my lift with a 50 minute #HIIT Heat session! 6 stations, 2 exercises per station, 2 minutes per exercise, 1 minute of rest every 4 minutes. I gotta tell y’all, @shannon_r_anderson definitely kicked mine and 18 women’s asses today. Yes, I was the only guy in the class today, but these women in this class straight up rose to the challenge and crushed it! By the end of it, I was drenched in sweat from my hat to my socks! The pump was definitely real! The results you get out of this type of thing is solely based on the effort you put into it. My heart rate today stayed pretty steady at 165bpm. • • Moral of the story, if you want results, put in the effort! Also, happy #nationalpoliceweek ! Flashback Friday!!!! The top two pictures are from 2015 when I started my fitness journey for the SECOND time. I haven’t stopped since. The bottom two are this month. Over 40lbs lost. I can’t even tell you how many inches (you can’t see a lot because I covered myself well) body fat in the upper 30’s down to 15%. How did I do this? Beachbody programs to start, then working with a trainer, then becoming certified myself and doing countless hours of work and research and a lot of motivation. Today was a long day. It seemed like the calls just kept rolling in one after another. But I made it to the end of that 12 hours and carried my happy ass to the gym. It’s training max week and I did not perform admirably on Tuesday with my bench dropping 30lbs from last cycle. I’m chalking that decrease in weight to just being a bad lifting day. We all have them, it happens. But the reason I’m posting this post is about perseverance. For the past 6 months, my training max for deadlift would not go above 405. It’s like I was stuck. I had some major setbacks with deadlift in the past couple of months, with straining my lower back twice. But today, I was determined to get over the hump. After my warm-up sets, I threw 405 on the bar just to get that out of the way. That set is the first video. Instead of microweighting my way past 405, I decided to go for 415 for 3. That’s the second video! The fist pump at the end is pure joy. Your mind will always quit before your body does. Absolutely did not want to be in the gym today. But I picked myself up and took my ass to the gym. This is the start of my training max week where I get my top set of 3 in my squat, bench, deadlift, and OHP. My previous top set for squat was 365, but today I dug deep and got 385 and left about 2 reps in the tank. • • A training max week is a gauge for your lifting cycle on the program that I am currently on. For the next 4 weeks, I will have varying sets at 70%, 75%, 80%, and 85%. Since I started this program over a year ago, my lifting power has steadily risen. The jumps aren’t usually 20lbs, like this cycle, but they’re significant enough to be proud of. This lifting program doesn’t suit everyone, but if you’re a seasoned lifter with about 2-4 years or more under your belt, I highly recommend it. #FF @mattogus , his program #Ogus753 is a great improvement program. It has definitely worked wonders on me. • • The fact of the matter is, if you don’t put in the work, you won’t get results. Simple as that. Do. The. Work! Results are not an overnight thing. That’s where most people that I have talked to have issues. They give up before their body has a chance to show them their rewards. Here are a couple factoids, it takes about 2-3 weeks for others to notice the change in your body that you will continue to be blind to. At about 6 weeks is when your brain will begin to recognize your bodily change. Doing 100 sit-ups for a week and not seeing abs is not a reason to give up. With a solid nutritional plan and a solid exercise routine, after about 6 weeks, you won’t be able to quit because you’ll notice the subtle changes it. I am far from where I want to be but I’m also leaps and bounds from where I started. I owe a lot of my success to my post workout nutrition. What you do post-workout is essential to your overall success! Immediately after lifting heavy, I put two extremely important things in my body: 1. Phormula-1 protein. Phormula-1 is a hydrolyzed, predigested rapid assimilation, low temperature processed, cross-flow microfiltered whey protein isolate. What do all those big words mean? Basically what it means is that it is a high quality protein, built to immediately get to work on your body’s recovery process. But wait, there’s more. To jumpstart your body back into an anabolic state, you need an insulin spike and that’s where the second product comes into play. 2. Ignition! Ignition is a glycogen supercompensation formula. When you put your body through the rigors of weightlifting, you begin to deplete the glycogen stores in your muscles. By replenishing your glycogen stores immediately after a workout, you’ll shorten your recovery time and create a highly anabolic state in your body. • • When you only use protein post workout, your body begins to break that protein down into glycogen to replenish the depleted glycogen stores and after they’re filled, whatever protein is left over is what is used for muscle repair. Pairing ignition with Phormula-1 gives an immediate insulin spike and because ignition is a dexanhydrous glucose, it doesn’t have to be broken down and can immediately start to restore glycogen levels. This means that all the protein you’ve taken with the Ignition is used for muscle building and recovery. Because I can do more than lift weights. I normally do my yoga and Pilates at home. I’m just like you. I’m a busy mom. I may work at the gym and teach and train here but I don’t spend hours on end doing my own workouts here. Today I focused on cardio and Pilates/yoga to stretch and strengthen my injured muscles and tendons. As you can see...I still have mommy belly, but my core strength is certainly not lacking! Don’t let appearances fool you. Having pretty muscles doesn’t necessarily make you strong. Don’t lock your knees out, get that slight bend in the knees, hinge at the base of your spine, and control the weight on the way down while maintaining a neutral spine. After hurting myself last week on deadlift day, this week felt a whole lot better. 245lbs for 5 sets of 5 on my regular lift. @sarahthebearhoff was throwing up 185 next to me, so I decided to do so one arm pulls.
