Sometimes all you need is a little perspective shift. Just being able to breathe, hear, smell, touch, taste are all miracles in themselves often taken for granted.

A Traffic Police Constable clears traffic during the rain by protecting himself with an umbrella at CRPF Chowk, Gurugram.
Photo / Ashish Kumar Kataria
While covering the life during rain, I encountered this gentleman standing amidst of the rain to complete his duty rather than searching for a corner to prevent himself.
I took three shots of this gentleman while he was busy at his duties. But at last he noticed me clicking him and he came up to me to ask the purpose behind.
And we were introduced to each other.
His name is Bijender Singh and he is a Traffic Police Constable posted on Mata Road, Gurugram.
He appreciated my efforts while I appreciated his.
After a good talk, he asked with a smile,"सर, तो कल मेरी स्टोरी आएगी
क्या? (Sir, Will my story be published tomorrow?)". And I replied,"I will try my best!". ~ Ashish Kumar Kataria
And I never returned ( I / II ) . Rwanda. 1994. .
Here they are, the survivors.
By the thousands, leaning like ghosts in a valley of terror at the bottom of a dark and silent volcano. .
I am here to report, to document, to tell stories of truths.
I look around and I do not see a thing. I feel numb, and I feel far away.
I could throw my Leica into the air having it take photographs by itself and the result would be the same.
The images would be as strong, as impressive, and as shocking.
And they still would be a matter of discussion about beauty and death during dinners later, back in Paris, with people who like to talk about horror, a fork in their hand and a bloody piece of red meat melting in their mouth like butter, and who don’t know a damn thing about horror.
I know nothing about horror myself.
It is not because I have seen it, experienced it by the side of people who have lived it, that I know anything about it.
Only they know, the survivors.
We were young photographers, we were like kings, surfing on the wave of success and prizes.
We were going around the world, taking photographs of pain more than photographs of joy, and we were the ones honored, awarded, acclaimed.
Like if WE were that important, like if it was in the end about us, all about us..
A pretty incredible few days at #ComicCon #SDCC2018
// There is such a warm community feel no matter where you go. Over 150,000 people descend on San Diego every year and what has amazed us is the amount of panels, discussions and programs all related to mental health, psychology and the lives of these iconic comic book characters. We can learn so much from these stories and we can’t wait to bring them all together with @mentalhealthmarvels
Story telling.. Tp nnt kita coba jg baca buku y naak.. 😊😘
that’s when you get to work for a great company that unlocks your hidden potential.
During my 3rd year, I was managing and leading teams with some more senior than me eg. 8 years. Sometimes, clients chose my idea/concept/strategy over my 30+ years of experience, Director. It daunt on me that I was on a different trajectory and growth, no longer 1 times x no. of years, rather exponential.
My bosses cried when I left after spending 5 amazing years there. I still have a lot of respect for them. I left to pursue my dreams, Human-centred design, giving back and to explore what else I could do.
I’ve been resisting sharing this story because most people don’t get it, they think this is outrageously arrogant and they try to fit me back into a small hole based on their understanding. Which is why for many years, I watered it down a lot. But for those who have worked with me know I’m different or those who have a growth mindset will know that exponential growth is possible. I’m learning to be comfortable with this. .

And I never returned ( II / II ). Rwanda , 1994.
Back in Paris I was often seeing in the eyes of my friends a sort of admiration, of respect.
And there was always this need to ask questions, about what I had seen, to share the taste of a drop of adrenaline like a vampire drinks the blood of its’ victims.
An admiration because I had jumped in a plane like anybody else could have.
The embarrassment I felt about that, would become later rout, of myself, and of others so eager to share the unsharable, and so often in the most inappropriate places, or instants.
We were all voyeurs.
One morning, I jumped off an early flight in a dark and rainy Paris.
A few hours before I was on a road of Burundi. My fixer was driving at a high speed, waving from side to side to try and avoid snipper shots, and to help me catch the last and final plane to France before an airport shutdown. I was terrified to the idea of not making it back. This race, against invisible bullets, felt like an eternity.
I am looking through the window of the cab that is taking me back from the airport.
We are on the “grands boulevards”, we turn from Place de la République to the Boulevard Saint Martin.
I just dropped the film at Libération, the daily newspaper I am collaborating to.
Writing these lines take me back there, to this instant.
I remember everything, with incredible and acute precision. Every detail.
From the large picture to the smallest thing.
The feeling, the sound, the sentiment…
Looking through the window of the cab, I have this thought that comes to my mind: the one that I want to go back, that it was a mistake to leave. The thought that there is nothing for me here, because there is nothing to live, to experience, nothing to really share..
And I miss the sound of the gunfire, the smell of powder, the howls of pain, the lines of the hills and the fire running on their edge..
And I never returned. I opened my eyes, shut for too long by the smell of success and the thirst for rewards, and things would never be the same. It was my turn to try and survive, and try and stay human, simply human. It is that day, in front of these tears of rain that I knew that things were over.
What a bright blessing to strategize with Avery @justaves
today. ❤️ I love the fact that she calls me “lil mama,” one of beloved students (actor) gave me that nick name before I had my daughter in the late nineties. Avery and I discussed and watered the seed🌱 of my vision-of helping people discover, cut, and polish their jewel of tranquility 🔹💧within; ”the miracle ✨💎✨diamond of mindfulness”. One of Avery’s many artistic gifts are helping people to use their voice and trust their vision. Her presence encourages us to gain mastery at the art of becoming authentic storytellers to build our brand. ♦️As I like to say, I am grateful to use my miracle diamond -mindful posture tool 🔹superpowered by 3Gs to ground my gorgeous spirit and 🌴root up to simplify and fly (first love yourself) in a joyful way. Hallelujah! 🙏🏼🙌🏽👏🏼

This was once an old dirt road. Times change, but the lessons we learn from time can help us change as well. And with what we learn, we have the power to either do good or do bad.
Stay. I need you more than you think...

the clockwork machine goes
ping, ding, tring-tring
sorry the heart doesn't make
sounds to remind you
just how long you've forgotten
some dreams in the oven
and now they've gone cold
sorry no doctor ever tells you
that it's not insomnia
and the shrink won't know
it's not love, nor the lack of it
(lack of self-love, perhaps?) too bad you haven't
heard yourself talk about
the things you love
or given them, and yourself,
a fair chance
what keeps you up at night?
what do you tell yourself
in those awake moments?
what's your routine lullaby?
how many excuses before
you run out of steam?
does it punch you in the gut
in the middle of a conversation?
passion is a pesky inmate
someone stares you in the eye
long enough, and you'll well up
it'll show, the ulcers of what if
fear never climbed a mountain
or made the first move
or handed in the resignation
or slept well at night
cut through the noise
silence the clockwork machine
no ping, ding, tring-tring
just for once, hear yourself
talk about the things you love
and there you have it
a brand new lullaby
play it on repeat
there's a smile in your eyes
the plunge is worth the story
