I’m kicking off T.V. Tuesday with a new Bonita’s Geeky Blog-Fu!
Well, it’s that time of year, kids, when movie theaters are chock full of Meh flicks as studios gear up for the summer (which now starts in February) blockbuster season. So, while you’re anxiously anticipating the release of Black Panther (I’ve got my tickets!), turn your attention from the big screen to these small screen gems…
I can’t even explain to you how good this show is. You wouldn’t want me to, because this post would be riddled with spoilers (and that’s something I can’t abide).
What I will say is that J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Juno) is so amazing that you just have to watch for his performance alone.
Check it out Sundays on Starz.
Mix Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell with a Mickey Spillane crime thriller and you’ve got Altered Carbon. Based the novel series by Richard K. Morgan, this show will delight any science fiction fan.
Check out the first season on Netflix.
STAR TREK DISCOVERY
I swore that I wouldn’t fall for CBS’ network subscription ploy (I’m adamantly opposed to major networks — not cable — charging for programming). But, alas, I did. After it’s incredible pilot (which, of course, CBS aired on it’s FREE channel…the pendejos), they had me hook, line and sinker. I can say, without reservation, Discovery is the best Star Trek pilot…ever. And for me, it’s quickly rivaling Next Generation for best Star Trek show.
So, if you’re willing to shell out $5.99/month (with commercials) or $9.99/month (without commercials), download the app. I can’t say the service is worth either price. (Lucky for you, the first full season has aired. I suggest you can binge watch it and then quickly cancel.)
Anyway you slice it, Star Trek Discovery is must-see television and deserves a fanatical audience.
