It’s my 21st #StarWarsiversary
! So I gave myself a gift.
This 1995 VHS was the last release of the original trilogy before the Special Editions came out. (Note Lucas’ message on the back! Well played, sir!). THIS is the first version of Star Wars I saw in 1996. I asked dad to rent #ANewHope
from the library, and the very next day begged for #ESB
. I’m sure he regretted complying. For the theatrical re-release in ‘97, dad said I could pick only one movie to see. So we all watched #ESB
. I sat a row ahead of my dad and brothers on the edge of my seat, looking back to see if they were enjoying it as much as I was. They were asleep.
Star Wars is often passed down. I passed it up. And I’m glad I can enjoy it now with my dad. It’s a story of family, redemption through compassion, overcoming fear, and each individual’s lifelong ethical growth. Also, things fly fast, things blow up, limbs get severed. They build cinemas for this stuff.
