This isn't a poem , it is more of a #PSA
Last night I accidently ingested #peanuts
,in the safest of places ,my home .
A household member accidentally ordered food that contained peanuts and left it behind .
This has never happened before, we always are so careful.
I smelled it ,just because I tend to do often to check.
I didn't sense it so I took a mouthful ..
Within a minute a lump started forming in my throat and tingling sensation increased
I began to feel weak.
I didn't have #epipen
!! Why? Good q
1. They are super expensive, even if you have insurance (that has to change)
2. They expire within 1-1.5 years
3. I am so careful and haven't had a reaction since my #anphalectic
episode that got me diagnosed a decade ago.
But, here we are
In the safe of your own home and you are suddenly exposed
Allergic reaction can begin within minutes to hours !! I took benadryl immediately and the rest is another part of the story I want to highlight
My kid's nanny who just finished working and thankfully was there rushed me to the ER.
My next door neighbors took my kids in until my friend took them in for the night
Another friend rushed to meet us in the ER with 6 kids epi pens in case I am not seen fast enough.
All of this in the course of a few minutes !
When I was safely hooked to steroids and a face mask , I found myself tearing up
Not of pain or fear anymore
But from #gratefulness
My heart was full
I was surrounded by #courageous
, #kind #women
THAT !!! Is everything.
So when you go about your day, make time to tell your friends how much you love them, go out of your way to show them and know that they are the most incredible gift .
And please be careful when in public closed places like planes ,trains etc with ingesting foods that are #airborne #allergens
It is truly an issue
And carry an epi pen
