Atlanta Pride 2017!
An amazing event every year, and this round was full of beautiful people encouraging and supporting each other. This year also showed the truth that there is a passing of certain generations and an ushering in of younger ones. The Gay community has bravely fought for Equality and Justice way before it was popular, and will continue to be on the front lines to stand in solidarity with any oppressed peoples. We fought, we organized, we changed law and policy, and ultimately began to change the world by not backing down, and by by standing tall to say This is who we are and we're not going anywhere. We were BORN THIS WAY!
Many lives were lost or destroyed along the way, never forget them. I ask those younger than me to study, understand, and never forget what the brave activists went through so you could march in the streets today, never forget the brave law makers who put us on a path to ensure that today you could have the right to stand in marriage with the one you love, never forget the names on the quilt for those are the ones that had to die before the HIV/AIDS crisis was even acknowledged and therefore studied and now treated. Never forget the martyrs like M.S. who were murdered in cold blood for being born this way, for society had to see that before it finally started to speak up.
The groundwork was laid, the tools were discovered, and civil disobedience works. Stand strong and use what you have learned to help others who are struggling to rise up. We have come along way, so it is now time to spread our wings and help carry other oppressed people to a bright future of Hope, Love, and Compassion for All!
