I was wondering why people looked at me all day. I’m cos playing a snork. #snorks
Looks like tropical waters...but this turtle pic was winter La Jolla! .🤯🤩.
Summer is here now, but the surf is high and the viz is 💩missing my snorks. 🧜🏼♀️ Crossing my fins that we catch a snorkel break soon...though the surfers deserve some fun, too 😂🏄♂️🏄♀️🌊 #turtletuesday
There are a couple ways to identify marine sea turtles, including the number of “prefrontal scale pairs”. The prefrontal scales are located above or between the turtles eyes, and counting the prefrontal scale pairs can help you ID green sea turtles. Swipe to the second photo to see the location of the prefrontal scale pair on this green turtle. .🐢.
There are 7 species of sea turtles identified globally, and only 2 species of sea turtles have one pair of prefrontal scales (leatherbacks have 0 pairs, and all other species have 2 pairs). So if you see a turtle with one pair of prefrontal scales, it’s either a green sea turtle or flatback sea turtle. Flatbacks are usually found off Australia, so if you’re not in Australia, it’s a green sea turtle. 🎉🐢🎉
The weekend’s here! Time to party lol
