To discard anxiety... even the Roman Emperor had his daily struggles with negative emotions...
This is one of my favorite lines in Marcus Aurelius’s personal journal, The Meditations, simply because of its truth.
One of the main principles of Stoic Philosophy is being aware that we, in fact, have power over our internal events, our emotions.
By understanding this, it allows the opportunity to train our minds to be more aware of these harmful emotions and to discard them when they surface in the first place.
I, for one, have suffered from anxiety since I could remember... I possibly suffer from it more than the average person does, or so I think. This has, overtime, taken a toll on me along with many other crippling emotions.
It wasn’t until I stumbled upon Stoicism that I realized that I no longer need to let anxiety, and or other similar emotions affect my life in a harmful way.
If I hold power over my emotions as a whole, then surely I can choose to not let the negative ones sprout in the first place...
I put this into practice and soon realized I can very well can train myself to handle them much better than I originally thought… It was and still is challenging but like everything, with consistent practice, it becomes easier to achieve on a daily basis.
It’s crucial to understand that Stoic Philosophy is no short term convenience guide… It takes practice and consistency to see any true benefits… This is why Stoic Schools existed in Greece nearly 2000 years ago, to provide consistency... One does not simply become “stoic” overnight.
The goal is to remain positive through the tough days and to keep pushing to see better results. You are here to achieve long term benefits from Stoicism and, in return, will become closer to your best self!

Listen, its true that over time we lose muscle, gain fat, and lose strength if we dont maintain. Falling vulnerable to the trials and tribulations of a weak immune system, higher toxicity, and a green light for dis-ease to settle within. When your body is strengthened, so is your metabolism, your vitality, your immune system, your relationship with self, overall health.
People, let us do what we know we are supposed to. As humans, much like a car, of we dont put oil in it what do you think happens over time.

I have spent years working on building myself up and this morning I realize that I have let myself come to a halt 🙊
While peeking into the lives of others, I have been consumed by the pretty pictures and inspirational captions and slowly melted into a puddle of “poor me”.
I’ve worked so hard to get where I am at this far.
Have I forgotten that?!
I would describe the last decade of my life as trudging through the fires of hell to finally be in a safe healthy home and state of mind,
And I cannot allow myself to slow or stop now.

RESET ❤️ I took today off work after a fairly hectic week last week as I felt I need some space to just breathe. I never just take a day off without it being for something specific. I promised myself that I wouldn’t fill it with the mundane jobs I know need doing.
So I spent all day reading this book 😍 it was lovely, so easy to read, just right for a chill day. I found it really interesting, some great insights and practical pieces of advice!
With each book I read I’m trying to take something away from or set myself some kind of goal from it. From this book I’m going to be thinking about being discipline with where I put my attention and energy, taking more care of my body and enjoying the journey rather than thinking about achievements.
What are you current goals?

Sleep deprivation increases irritability and frustration, which turns into anger 😡Redirected anger can turn into unproductive or destructive conflict. Lack of sleep can make even the happiest person feel like everything is crumbling around them.
Try having a 10-minute bedtime ritual before you go to sleep⌛️I like to wash and moisturize my face, check my to-do list for the next day and make any changes where necessary, and then listen to some meditation music to calm down my mind. Even if i don't always get to implement this routine, I am actively preparing myself for sleep so my body knows that it should be winding down.

HOW FITNESS HAS IMPROVED MY MENTAL HEALTH
I know - SO cliché. 🤣 But let's just talk about it for a moment. Next month, I'll be celebrating my one-year "since I joined the gym" anniversary. 👏👏
I started lifting weights with the intention of sculpting my muscles, and with the notion that this would improve my overall body image. I knew that if I could transform the areas of my body that I was most insecure about, I would be more confident and could wear things that I had either stopped wearing or had never worn because I "didn't have the right body type for it" (like shorts and swimsuits!). ______________________________
What I DIDN'T EXPECT from this fitness journey is that things I struggled with on a daily basis like STRESS, anxiety and depression would be something that no longer controlled me. These are things that I have dealt with for half my life, that I just accepted as a part of me.
I used to be a chronic stresser - everything, every situation - I would find something to stress over. Fitness has helped me find my true authentic self. And the confidence it has given me - that I am capable of anything - has alleviated the stresses I had about constantly doing things right, letting people down, failing myself and others, not being nice enough, being too nice. And then if I did happen to do ANY of these things, oh hey depression, can I help you? Sure make yourself comfortable...
It's truly incredible how finding a healthy, positive routine has changed my negative thought patterns and behaviors. Fitness has become an everyday staple in my life and a crucial factor in my overall mental health. It feels good not worrying all the time, and to free myself of all the destructive thoughts and habits I used to cage myself in with.
