School is open 📚 The @cfda
award nominees were announced last night and it's got me very excited (more on that later tonight). Streetwear's dominance was acknowledged by the fashion elite with both Supreme's James Jebbia and Off White's Virgil Abloh nominated in the Men's designer of the Year category. But before I reflect on the current nominee's I think it's time to pay homage to @diddy.
Not long ago when I mentioned Sean's contribution to style some uninformed people questioned his contributions. It's very sad that people get swept up in the here and now and don't recognize those who blazed the path for the current favorites to walk. Again, we wouldn't have a @pharrell
or a #kanyewest
if it were not for the work of Sean Combs. Anna Wintour's influence is critical for recognition in the CFDA's and Sean got it first way back when. Diddy is also the first African American to snag the elusive Designer of the Year category in 2004 for Sean John. So we need to recognize the door he opened for all that came after. Diddy emanates style and an uncanny business acumen that caught the attention of the CFDA, but people who know his legacy understand that Sean's vision changed the game in Hip Hop's embrace of high end fashion via artists like Biggie, and Sean's taste for luxury fashion in general. As we celebrate @virgilabloh
on the verge of making history himself in two top categories of note, let's also reflect on how we got to this moment in the first place. #seancombs #cfda #annawintour #virgilabloh
