X-Men And Fantastic Four Closer To Joining The MCU
Comcast has officially pulled out of the bidding war for Twenty-First Century Fox assets, meaning Disney is in the all-clear to acquire Fox's assets which would see the X-Men and the Fantastic Four join the MCU.
Comcast released an official statement regarding the company's withdrawal from negotiations: "Comcast does not intend to pursue further the acquisition of the Twenty-First Century Fox assets and, instead, will focus on our recommended offer for Sky.”
Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast, said the following about the deal: "I’d like to congratulate Bob Iger and the team at Disney and commend the Murdoch family and Fox for creating such a desirable and respected company.”
After 21st Century Fox accepted the Walt Disney Company’s $52.4 billion all-stock offer for the latter’s key assets, including the company’s movie and television studios, Comcast bested the bid with their own all-cash $65 billion offer for the same assets. In response, Disney raised their offer to $71.3 billion split evenly between cash and stock.
Should the deal be completed, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, and all characters associated with them, would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
