Tangerine Dream | 3 // To round off our set of three sun-soaked shots from Hong Kong, here’s a shot over sunset over Long Island. Yep, we in Hong Kong have our Long Island as well! Known as Cheung Chau (Cheung Chau is the Chinese for “Long Island”), the island gets its name from its elongated shape. The dumbbell-shaped island is basically two hilly peninsulas, connected by a narrow strip of flat land, which is what is in frame, and where the vast majority of Cheung Chau’s 22,000 residents have settled.
Cheung Chau can be reached by a leisurely ferry ride from Central, and makes for a very popular day trip for locals and tourists alike who want to escape the city and get a taste of Hong Kong’s unique island culture. However, what often greets visitors when they first disembark from the ferry is promenade often as crowded as the city they are supposed to have left behind - Cheung Chau is very much the victim of its own popularity. If you’re planning to visit, my advice is to spend as little time as possible in the busy township itself (but do stop to sample a local snack or two, such as the giant fish balls). The hinterland of Cheung Chau is a much more pleasant place to be: it is an idyllic semi-rural area dotted with leisurely walks in the forest, passing by church camps and corporate holiday houses. My favourite is the relatively quiet northern end, which offers spectacular views of the island from a hiking trail on top of the ridge, and from which there are great takeoff points for the drone.
Yes, this was a pretty smoggy day, and as I explained in the comment to my shot from yesterday, we get some pretty intense sunsets when that happens!
I hope you’ve liked this series. Next up: good old blue hour, but with altitude!
Wailea Beach Villas, Maui. The #2
Top Resort in Hawaii from the Conde Nast Reader's Choice Awards 2017. The villas are elegant and spacious with huge kitchens and private lanais; the resort is on the same beach as the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons; the pools and resort are never crowded, which gives a much more relaxed feel than the hotels nearby.
There is still time to vote in the 2018 Conde Nast Traveler Reader's Choice Awards. The deadline is June 30. Go to cntravener.com/vote to vote, and you could win a cruise! @cntraveler

I posted this picture last year when I was first learning how to use Lightroom. I was never a big fan of the way the edit came out, but kept it up anyways. Yesterday on my flight back to San Diego I decided to re-edit it and while I’m still not the best at using Lightroom I think I have improved. This picture with the old edit is still on my page, check it out and let me know what y’all think.
