Okay people, it's time for a serious post for once.
The monkeys in my last post were wild animals and we didn't attract them with any food or whatsoever. We acted quiet and calm and eventually these little guys were just as curious about us as we were about them and they came really close. However, the sad truth is that they were probably so trusting because other people did feed them before. Now, the naive part of me wants to believe that that's not true and people are able to follow very simple rules that are written out all over the place but that's probably not true.
Sadly, today we had to witness an even more heartbreaking part of what some humans do to wild and peaceful animals. We went to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project and while the gibbons that can actually still be rehabilitated aren't accessible by the public we got to see the ones that sadly have no hope of ever being released back into the wild.
A very long and painful story cut short resulted in Tam, the gibbon in my photo, losing a hand, a foot, and three fingers on her remaining hand. She was born in 1994, so she is almost my age and she has seen and experienced so much pain in her life because of what humans did to her and she won't ever be able to live in the wild where she belongs. It's not fair and nothing could ever possibly justify this kind of behavior towards any other living being.
So, I hope you are still reading this and if you ever see an animal chained up or in a cage so that tourists can take a photo with it, please don't! If no one pays these people then there won't be a market for animals to be held as a tourist attraction anymore!! It's not just gibbons, it's any kind of animal. They belong in the wild and not in a cage!
Finally, thanks to @grp_phuket
for fighting the good fight!
Thank you everyone for reading this🙏
