Summer Thunderstorms⛈️ We’ve got summer thunderstorms heading our way. Here’s what you need to know!
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for counties in and along the I-95 corridor from 11 AM today through this evening. There is a higher risk of flooding in Central and Northern New Jersey, with flooding possible statewide. Forecasts call for up to 2” of rain in NE NJ and 0.5” to 1.5” for the remainder of the state. Amounts of 2” to 4” are possible locally. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until midnight for coastal waters.
Impacts to New Jersey
Severe thunderstorms bring the risk of heavy rain, flash flooding, high winds, lightning, and hail. Rainfall rates of 1” to 2” per hour are possible and may cause flooding in urban areas, roadways, areas with poor drainage, and small creeks and streams. Strong wind gusts may damage trees and power lines, and may cause scattered power outages. Storms are possible during the afternoon commute.
Check your local weather forecast before planning outdoor activities today! For those living in Central and Southern New Jersey visit http://www.weather.gov/phi/. For those living in Northern New Jersey and the New York Metro area visit http://www.weather.gov/okx/. Turn Around, Don’t Drown! NEVER walk, bike, or drive through flooded areas! Obey traffic barriers! Water may be deeper than you think!
