CONNECTING YOUR GLUTES AND LATS
Hey guys? Here’s an exercise to start activating your POS (posterior oblique sling). Your POS connects your opposing glutes and lats, and plays a crucial role in powering efficient rotation.
Training these in isolation with traditional lifting in the Sagital plane disconnects them from each other and will eventually create a poor capacity for dynamic movement so it’s really important to train them in sequence like this. This is a tricky exercise and should be attempted when the basic functional patterns principles have been addressed.
Important to know that this is not intended as a scapular retraction exercise. The aim is to keep the scapula in a neutral position and rotate the whole ribcage using the lat. Keeping the hip fixed as we rotate the ribcage will help prime us for the counter rotation needed to walk and run.
It must be done from a neutral position and is a good starting point to begin working on gait mechanics. What we hope to happen is a sequenced activation of the lat and opposite glut as we pull ourselves into the rotation. Postural and range of motion testing with my new client, Andrew. From these pictures alone you can see Andrew's arms are raised from the floor, so being forced into extension which represents tight latissimus dorsi. He also has tight hip flexors and calves, as well as under active glutes, which is affecting his squat form by forcing his knees over his toes and raising his heels from the floor. These are all things that can be worked on and improved. It's also a bespoke approach to creating a client programme. .

If you hurt yourself during an activity, of course you may need to rest in the immediate aftermath to let an acute injury heal.
However, an ongoing chronic ache or pain is not going to get better through rest. Resting for too long causes muscle atrophy and prohibits the vital flow and cleanse of oxygen and toxins. Not good for recovery.
Rather than getting caught in a cycle of feeling pain, resting for a bit until the pain goes away and then doing the same thing you did before and feeling the pain again, understand that pain is your body’s way of asking you to change something.
If you continue to rest without changing the internal environment of the joint, all you’re doing is giving yourself short term respite and causing longer term damage.
If you don’t change the internal environment of the joint, eventually the dysfunction will stop your play. 🏃🏼♂️ Running will turn to walking, 🚶♀️ walking will turn to cycling, 🚴♀️ cycling will turn to swimming and 🏊♀️ swimming will turn to sitting on a sofa 🛋 .
Postural Alignment Therapy will teach you how to move in a way which brings your joints back to functional alignment.

is important because it stabilizes the body for bigger lifts, so you can lift more on your #deadlifts

If you’re a beginner, try doing pullups using a chair or superband for assistance or try jump pull-ups. For more challenge, add a weighted belt.
