I'm getting real sick of going on craigslist, or any job offering site rather, and reading about some photoshoot someone wants and then to find out they're offering "expanding your portfolio" as a payment. You know, like they're doing me a favor. I went to school, learned, practiced, read, watched videos, took notes, all for you to get a free photoshoot? Be honest, your broke and don't wanna pay. I'm a professional, i deserve to be paid. Would you allow your boss or clients to tell you they're paying you in experience?
This is not ok in any other job, but for some reason, artistic work has a connotation that we should give things for free. If you are an #artist
meaning #photographer #painter #barber #piercer #tattoo #cosmotology
... the list goes on. DO NOT GIVE YOUR SKILLS AWAY FOR FREE. It gives people a sense they can always ask for free work.
Sorry about the rant, but this is what i do for a living, i can't sit there and give free stuff away for everyone, or i wouldn't survive. You pay for everything else, this is no different. I support my fellow artists and you should. They make you look damn good.
