Grease, Be Gone. As soon as I spotted Mother Dough (749 North Bridge Road) on The Straits Times Life! food picks, I booked my Grabshare and took off in 5 minutes. Because I simply love #croissants
and my hubs is continuously on the lookout for awesome #sourdough #bread
. I arrived to a rather busy street level #bakery
in the corner of a row of shophouses. The two-month-young muted-colored space was pretty - a communal table and a standing corner in the alfresco area, and homely selection of furniture inside, with most of the space taken up by the display counter and cashier, as well as the kitchen.
There was only one other person in front of me in line, but it felt like I was waiting forever. There was one person bagging up the orders and another ringing up the till. There are three different #cakes
, and an assortment of four croissants behind the glass. And a bunch of baby #baguette
’s facing the street. The croissants and baguette use the “mother dough” aka #sourdough
starter originally from #Brooklyn
, New York. Each and every baked item ordered gets its own bag, then a piece of tape, in the brand’s color and printed “Mother Dough Bakery”, is pulled from a roll and then cut before being pasted to secure the folded bit to the paper bag. OMGS THIS TOOK FOREVER.
Who tapes every single bag of pastry??? It was such a pain opening up each and every one to check which had what. Geez.
1. 🥐 The plain #butter
croissant ($3.20) looked parched on the outside, but oozed oil with every bite and chew. It wouldn’t have tasted half bad if it wasn’t for the unwanted greasiness.
2. 🍫 The other one is pain au chocolat or #chocolate
croissant ($3.60) with pretty #pastry
folds on the sides was extremely flaky. Some people like that, I’m impartial to it. .
3. 🍄 Then there was #mushroom #croissant
(price unavailable). I didn’t see any with #beef
as were mentioned in the newspaper piece. One word : Consistency. Oily consistency.
4. 🍋 The #lemon
pound cake ($4.50 per slice) had very sour icing on an extremely...yup you guessed it, on sensationally greasy butter cake. (More on Jillyeats on facebook.) #MotherDough #Summer2018
