Of the ways in which my life has been changed by motherhood, the one I am wierdly proud of is the evolution of my handbag. From the pre-mom, keys-cash-tissues and cellphone tiny bag, my shoulder bag has now evolved into a 3-compartment, 10 sub-compartment (nopes, not exaggerating) little universe that has me prepared for most of toddler emergencies my son has to throw my way. And I am constantly open to modifications when my son finds out a new way to have me stumped with a wailing, screaming toddler in the middle of nowhere.
As a naive, new mom; my bag had the standard extra diapers, extra dresses and blankets, tissues and cloths. Two and half years, countless to and fro train journeys, 3 out of state journeys and one international journey later, my bag contents have been updated each time with each lesson I have learnt.
My husband calls it the mini babysupermarket. It has tissues(wet & dry, for blowout emergencies), two different types of cloths, extra hijab for me(in case of projectile puke episodes), soap(from when my son decide to clean the muddy windows of a shop. with his hands. And face), earbuds(from when he decided to test out teapowder from the grocery shop, by inhaling the entire sack into his nose and we had to make him sneeze 10000 times) baby sunglasses(because sometimes he needs a fashion fix at the most random moments), a used cloth for wiping(from when my son peed on the floor of the mosque, just after I had brought him washed up after a diaper blowout[I will tell this story in detail another day, still haven't recovered from the shudder of having to wipe down the mosque floor in front of 50 people😂])extra caps, bibs, biscuits, sippy cups, spoons, a story book(to keep a bored toddler occupied) and on and on.
If any newly pregnant lady is reading this, and is feeling overwhelmed, I apologise, but I think it's better to prepare your bag now itself(instead of learning the hard way like me😁) than having heard flowery mom stories and thinking "pssshh.. this is easy!"
And also, toddler stage is just 3 years, it's a WILD ride, but you're gonna love it!!
