Watching black grouse lekking at RSPB Corrimony in the Scottish Highlands (accompanied by @rspb_love_nature
) was a real delight. Each morning at dawn from October-June male grouse stake out an area (a ‘lek’) and do their best to impress the local females. This involves lots of jumping about, chasing, and macho behaviour — not to mention flashing of those white wing feathers. It’s all very impressive, even if you’re not a female grouse!
