Spreader R&D: I'm trying out a bunch of new shapes of spreader. I usually carve them like the one on the right, but I wanted to try out some new shapes. Next step is picking one shape and trying a ton of tiny variations.
Throwback! To when I took pictures that are other places then my back porch.... but this spoon is still pretty sweet right?
I've had this big old leg vise laying around a few years now. - It finaly hit me to use it outside mounted to my biggest work stump. •
Came in handy because I had to make a new mallet today. That old mallet must have lasted four years solid. Finaly split down the core. Goodbye old mallet - hello mega stump.

Decided to have a go at the actual spoon design from @jarrod__dahl
post. A tricky one to get right, with a really subtle squared off bowl and tightly curved transtion from bowl to handle. I realise after photographing that my bowl is slightly lopsided, something I know is a result of my technique. I managed s decent crank from a tangential blank and added some facets to the keel and underside of the handle.

Finished and faceted. Now to oil and find a home.
Finally back in the swing again. If you live in the Southeast, you probably know (and hate) the Sweetgum tree (Liquidambar styraciflua). They grow like a weed around here and I've never given them much thought. Early on in my spoon carving venture I heard horror stories of logs that wouldn't split and resin so hard it would stop a blade. However, this limb carved like a dream. Playing with a "hollow ground" handle and I think I'm in love. $15 +shipping.

Well I seem to have a thing for folding knives. The other day I got a new toy in the mail. It's the Real Steel G3 Puukko with a scandi grind and it's designed by @ostaphelknives
Tried it out during these first days and made the finishing cuts on a ladle, carved a few clothes pins and roughed out a spoon. You can see the results in these pictures. The only thing I can say agains the knife is that I had to use an hour to get it shaving sharp after in boxing it, but other than that I must say that I'm very happy with the knife. It seems robust an could handle everything I tried to do with it. It is a cool tool and functions great! Now I'll just have to see how it copes in the long run.

Finally after ages I got my signature ferro rods back in stock!
Now you might wonder what makes these special... In short: this is the best ferro metal available in the world... From Austria🇦🇹... Represent!
In long: these ferro rods are 3/8" or approx 1cm thick, tried and tested throw the best sparks on the market and last much longer than any other out there. No chinese no name ferro rod or thin Swedish ones... These are the real deal!
Secondly: who thinks that a person with severe hypothermia, wet and cold, in other words when you need these most (saved one of my clients ass last year!) will be able to hold on to whatever tiny, pretty, sanded and polished fancy handle while trying to scrape of sparks for his life... Right!
These handles are carved from birch, providing nearly knife handle size (can be ordered bigger as custom inquiry) and left with grabby and intriguing facets, several coats of milk paint and tung oil. The shock cord nicely feeds over the rod with some tension once stuck in your belt or loop for a secure carry and quick release.
These rods cost me as much raw as the crappy stuff out there costs retail... But there is no comparison and when it comes to real backcountry tripping, hunting and canoeing I ain't f#£&ing around!
Available in red or blue milk paint.
25€ a piece plus shipping!

Changing the spoons in my windows. Feels great to have them in sight. It's strange to handle all these knowing it's just little over five months since I started on this crazy journey. Don't really know how many I have carved? Wonder how my spoons will look like a year or more from now? Difficult to say, but here on Instagram you can view how my path unfolds. Have a nice Thursday everyone!
