STRANGER THINGS is this weeks READ INTO IT post. (4/6)
Lucas, Mike, and Tooffless initially view Eleven with the profane eye, either as something “pretty” to be possessed or as a terrible force to be reckoned with, failing to understand the full nature of her being. According to the Goddess archetype, Eleven is a promise of more than Mike or any of the boys are yet capable of comprehending. She doesn’t need to redeem her actions; the boys need to redeem their understanding of her.
When they finally decide to treat her with “undue commotion,” and accept her fully into their group. When they assure her that she’s pretty with or without a wig, and treat her with kindness by cleaning her up, feeding her, and hiding her from the Bad men, they see her through a lens of “gentle sympathy.” Mike and the boys come to understand who Eleven really is and the grotesque or angelic forms they once saw fall to the wayside.
