Happy #trxfitfamday !!! I subbed for @liljuicebox11 for the final week of our 6-week TRX session. She said she had some hard working ladies and to challenge them. One of my favorite combos was this #singlehandlemode 6 minute EMOM: 4 reps each modified power pull, row, and side facing bicep curl with added weight for even more instability. Work through the moves with good control, there is plenty of time, and rest for the remainder of the minute. Alternating sides each minute. We’re officially in year 2 of residency! 🙌 Celebrated the graduating residents last night and woke at 4:45 to meet up with a run club. I was expecting 6 easy since two of the women ran Grandma’s Marathon last weekend. Their definition of easy differed from my definition of easy 😂 The first 6 went well, but then at the 6.5 mark things started going south. I’ve forgotten how mental running is! I prepared myself for 6, so I capped out at 6 - but I’m proud of myself for finishing with the group. And SO GRATEFUL that one of the members hung back chatting with me which kept me distracted while I started to fade. The mind definitely runs the body. 7.41 @ 8:23 average (8:39, 8:09, 8:08, 8:17, 8:08, 8:07, 8:59, 8:57). Lots of work to do, but it was a good check in going from a flat treadmill to hills/AC to humidity, and surrounding myself with people that are where I want to be with endurance and speed. Came home to my people who crashed my stretching session and stole my rollers. And now we’re off to a kindergarten play date for Addie’s upcoming class. HOW DO I HAVE A KINDERGARTENER?

Fall in Love with taking care of yourself. 💗 . I have to say the beginning of the week started to get the best of me, from crazy days at work to feeling overwhelmed, stressed & a little extra emotional. I hadn’t had a week like this in a long time. Things just had finally built up enough. Thank goodness for my sweat sessions to sweat the stress away, surrounding my self with those that make me smile, reading positive affirmations, my devotional & having my massage today. Perfect ending to the week. This weekend I plan on some extra rest, recharging & recovery, to help my body heal itself since I’m still having a psoriasis flare up! 😕 . Life is all about BALANCE. You don’t necessarily have to be doing all the time. Sometimes it’s necessary to shut down, kickback & do nothing. Chill out before you burn out. 😎 . . What are your weekend plans? I reeeealy enjoy running when we visit Utah. This year I want to get up in the mountains, on the trails, and run, and run...like Forrest Gump! I'll be away from all the different workouts I do! Running will be my focus. It will be fabulous! I love to run.
Beach miles bring me smiles. 🏃🌞Kicked off this Friday morning with my longest run since #BostonMarathon & my 1st official run of Summer 2018! 😎 It was about 70 degrees & 86% humidity with a dewpoint of 60 when I started my run! It was just plain sticky but luckily there were 15 mph winds which gave it a nice cool breeze! People were out walking in long sleeves, long pants & jackets - I heard people saying "it's so cold" but then there was me running in a sports bra & shorts because I was sweating buckets with my tank top on! 😂🙆 Anyone else sweat like a monster as well? 😂🙋 When I finished my run; I saw a missed call from my mom; apparently I was pocket texting her while I was running! I wasn't wearing a pair of shorts with a pocket for my key so it was hitting my phone & texting her all kinds of gibberish! 🙈 Poor mom; she had no idea what happened! Strange thing, my pocket texts actually formed some normal words & texted them. 😂 (see stories). I started this run with 5 miles at an easier pace (8:21, 8:19, 8:19, 8:19, 8:18) before adding in 5 tempo miles (7:48, 7:48, 7:45, 7:45, 7:42). After those tempo miles my legs didn't want to slow down; I finished the final 2 miles at 8:13, 7:56. 12 miles in 1:36:36 (8:03/mile)! Strangely enough; lately when I finish up a run my minutes tend to match my seconds! In Boston this year I ran 3:42:42 and today I ran 1:36:36! Maybe it's good luck? 🍀 Does that happen to anyone else? Feels good to head into the weekend with my long run done! Sweating is a normal occurrence for most of us. We expect that when we work out, sweating will happen. For a small percent of people, sweating doesn’t happen. This is bad. Sweating keeps your liver healthy, guards against infection, and most importantly it regulates your body temperature. 🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ If you don’t sweat it can lead to overheating, dizziness, rashes, and even fainting. Without sweating, you can overheat in less than 10 minutes and be forced to stop completely to cool down. 🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ For as long as I can remember, I have not been able to sweat. Even during intense exercise! I was forced to stop many times during my runs because I was simply overheated. This is one reason I love running in the winter; even though I still get hot, I don't overheat! I tried going in a sauna a few times in March but still, no sweat after 30 minutes! I wrote this off as normal for me as my Doctor wasn’t sure either what was wrong. 🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️ I am not sure what was different about today. I profusely sweat! Crazy! I am not sure I like it but I am so glad this happened! It is the first indicator that my thyroid and hormones may be intact for the first time ever!!! Rise. Run. Beach. Repeat. 🌞🏃😎💪 These things make up the perfect summer day in my book & this is pretty much how I spent this sunny Tuesday! Woke up early & spent the day at the beach with my mom. Normally I'd start a summer day with an early morning run but today I switched things up a bit & ended my day with a gorgeous #sunsetrun (see pics in stories). It was about 86 degrees, sunny with a dewpoint of 60 when I started my run tonight! It was hot but luckily the humidity was only around 48% so it felt bearable! I'm trying to become a runner, with the goal of running a big event in a few years in honor of my 10th cancerversary in two years. Today I had the opportunity to participate in a running clinic that took place at my local @scheelssports. Experts from @regionalhealth Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team video analyzed my running mechanics & provided advice on how to improve. This video shown was filmed from an iPad because I didn't have anyone to video me. 😀😀😀 It was a great clinic & am excited to use the feedback. They also reinforced the importance of doing other activities like swimming & hiking, which I love! Yes, I have a long way to go, but the only way to get better is to do! I adjusted my paces considering the temperature because I knew my body would shut down if I tried to go sub-7 on any of these 400m repeats. I hit 8 out of 8 with the adjusted pace and I’m happy with that! 1 mile up, 4 miles of repeats and recovery, followed by 2 miles down for a total of 7 miles on #tracktuesday . I cringe everytime i think about my junior dance recital jazz performance. Halfway through, i had to do left splits since i was the only one in class who could. Well, i was a little cocky before the dance and did not stretch. I heard my hamstring pop over the music. Worst. Pain. Ever! I recall finishing both days of the recital but i was majorly injured. It took 6 months to fully heal and 4 years to get full flexibility back. . . 💡 The #1 thing people skip that helps prevent injury is stretching. No matter your exercise or sport, stretching is essential! Without it, you can cause major, sometimes irreparable damage. . Stretching helps reduce tension before and after a workout.
