Besides all of the toys and gadgets you can use to release tight muscles, by far one of the most brutal forms of release is a good old barbell! Sometimes a foam roller just doesn't cut it.
Tibialis anterior is your main Dorsiflexor (pulls your foot up) and is one of the main muscles involved in classic shin splints. This bad boy also does inversion (rolls the ankle towards the midline). To release tib ant, place the barbell on top and slowly roll up and down, searching for the sore parts. When you find a really sore spot, actively invert your foot inwards as shown in this video and you will find that the muscle will release a lot quicker!! Give it a try and let me know how you go!! 💪
