the fear of falling apart
We moved my mom out of her house today. We moved into that house when I was 11 after Dad passed. Soooo many memories in those walls. As we were running around crazy and sweating our butts off getting all the last minute “stuff,” you don’t even see as you’re packing it was so not what I expected to feel. I expected tears and grieving....but I didn’t cry once. We were so stressed getting everything out that all I saw was “stuff.” I looked at the house when it was all empty and not a single twinge of sadness hit. It wasn’t her home anymore. And when I got home and looked around at all my “stuff,” I realized that I’m putting too much pressure on myself to make my “stuff,” look as pretty as everyone else’s. But that’s not what home is. Home is me sitting with kids crawling all over me. Home is my husband lovingly making fun of the chicken that I completely forgot was in the oven!!! Sorry for the long winded-ness and thanks for sticking with me if you’re still reading. I’ll pray for us all that our hearts be filled with Him so much that there isn’t room for all the “stuff.”

Birch wrapped mason jars, how fun!
An easy way to reduce your plastic is to buy used! Think about every new item you’ve purchased recently: board game, appliance, glassware, clothing etc. All of it has plastic complements for the packaging. Often there is bubble wrap involved so it doesn’t get damaged in transit, or bags wrapped around each piece of the unit. When you buy used, you are only buying the item! No box, no packaging, usually just a sticker or small tag. Plus by buying used you are saving a great deal of money, probably buying something of better quality because it’s lasted a long time, and you are reducing what is going to the landfill! So next time you need a blender or a set of glasses, check out your local thrift store or on kijiji! *
