Congratulations Class of 2018!!! 🎉🎓🎉 This class will always hold a special place in my heart. They were just freshman babies when I started working at AH and now they are graduated young men and women. Missing some of my 2018 friends in these pics, but they all looked beautiful and so proud! (As they should!) The school halls will never be same without the sounds of “Amanda!” coming from every which way. They are onto bigger and better things and will certainly set the world on fire. Today's senior is Katelyn Woolard! Though Katelyn's busy schedule did not leave much room for trips, Katelyn spent a good deal of time around Mountain Alliance in the last 3 years. It has been so wonderful to get to know such a hard-working, passionate, and empathy-filled individual. Katelyn is smart and talented while caring and compassionate. She gives her all to her pursuits and her friends. Her dedication and leadership were wonderful to see both in the MA classroom and on the stage. Ok, true confession. I LOVE donuts! Like really, really love donuts. I was gluten-free for 10 years (before gluten-free was cool and there were alternatives) and I literally craved donuts for 10 years.⠀
There are a million diets out there. So many women want to lose weight and jump from fad diet to fad diet or do the yo-yo diet thing. It's frustrating and it doesn't produce results. The newest diet fad includes cheat days. If I could change ONE thing about the health & fitness world it would be cheat days. Let's talk about real life for a second. I eat donuts. I also eat carrots. I have blueberries for dessert most nights. I love pesto. Tacos are my weakness (I could eat tacos every day). And breakfast is my favorite meal.⠀
When it comes to getting REAL results from our diet and weight loss plans, our plans HAVE to fit into our real lives! Every extream diet will fail unless you are an extream person (I am not, so diets don't work for me). Anyone else? Give me a hand raise!🙋🏼♀️⠀
We know that sugar contributes to belly fat (see my IGTV post or my FB live in my group for more). But we don't have to deprive our selves of the things we love either. You can probably reduce your daily sugar intake by 70% just by reading labels--pasta sauce DOESN'T NEED SUGAR! But it's in there. Same with bread. Start buying products that have less sugar. Swap unhealthy deserts for healthy ones 5 days a week and enjoy a donut once in a while!⠀
I am all about REAL, lifelong sustainable change! Not diets that don't work or quick fixes. It's possible. It's a long way! But the journey is fun!⠀
P.s. I eat donuts about 2-3x a year. And I enjoy every single bite!!!

Breakfast and lunch so far today has been on point... I am so tired from my new schedule this week that I hope I can make good choices tonight at dinner. I am going out for dinner, so I know it is about good choices versus being 100% (since it is harder to know what is going into my food at a restaurant). I know the menu, so at least I can plan ahead and not be tempted when I walk in and the french fries smell amazing.

I’m emotionally hungover from last night (aka no alcohol was consumed. Just depressed and anxious). My whole body and head aches. I’m exhausted and have lost all motivation. (Un)luckily I have to work today, so I’ve been somewhat productive in that I started laundry so I have a clean uniform to wear. It’ll also be nice to be distracted and not alone for 7-8 hours. But I’m scared to work tonight because I don’t want my coworkers or customers to think I’m mean or mad—I’m just having a really rough time. I’ll try to fake it until I make it, I guess.
Until then, I’m in bed, overwhelmed by the amount of stuff to do that I can’t get myself to do. I feel like such a waste, but feelings are not fact.
This too shall pass.

It’s so easy to get off track while on vacation, the house is full of company, kids are home for summer. What a noticeable contrast in energy levels, lack of sleep, motivation, and overall just feeling meh. What we put it makes all the difference! Even the littlest steps in the right direction will help get you where you want to be. The biggest thing that helped me in my journey was not focusing so much on the possible end result, but rather focusing on just making sure I was doing what was best for me in that moment. Make good choices and you’ll reap the benefits. It’s not going to happen overnight, but you’ll thank yourself later. Happy Friday!
Chicken (I normally use precooked chicken)
Rice (already cooked and cold)
2 cm piece of ginger
2 garlic cloves
1 chilli very finely chopped
Veg – can be a mix of whatever you have – onion or 4 spring onions, peppers and mushrooms.
Chinese 5 spice
Light soy sauce
Veg or rapeseed oil
Chicken stock (1/2 cube) made up with 300 ml of water
Drizzle of sesame oil
Put a tablespoon of oil and soy in your wok, grate in your garlic, ginger, add the 5 spice and the chilli (keeping some aside for a garnish if you want). Stir fry for a few minutes.
Add your veg and cook until they are softened.
Then add your rice, chicken and give a good mix round.
At this point add 1 tablespoon of teriyaki sauce and give another good mix and leave on a high heat
For the sauce, add the stock to a small pan, add the peanut butter and chilli powder (add a small amount at a time to your own taste) and whisk the sauce. It should thicken, once it has reduced down, keep it on a low heat, not letting it boil.
Back to the rice and keep moving it around, if some bits get a bit burnt, don’t worry it only adds to the flavour.
Once you are happy everything is warmed through (should be 20 mins or so to get some good colour on the chicken and rice) plate up into a bowl and add your sauce with some fresh chilli to garnish and a drizzle of toasted sesame oil #shonasfoodforlife #enjoy #fakeawayfriday #fakeaway #ditchthetakeaway #eatbetter #makegoodchoices

Letting kiddos figure some things out for themselves is a great way to help a lesson stick! And how we respond to them has the potential to shape their entire lives. .
. "This has too much sugar, my head hurts!" "I need a small next time, I can't eat all of this."
. "I'll never get the sour spray again, it ruined the whole thing!"
I never chose to say, "I told you so!" I didn't choose to offer a look of displeasure over their choices. I didn't try to make them feel inferior as if they "should have known better." .
A simple, "At least we know for next time" is a great phrase to adopt if you want to create a safe place for children to learn, grow, fail, get back up again, succeed, and build a lifelong relationship with you. .
Whether it's something as simple as a sugar headache, or harder and more complex issues that alter life, your grace and encouragement will buoy your children up in ways you may never realize. .
Today, create a space for grace.
