Following up last weeks post about how to improve trunk stability with the split squat. This week we have a elevated split squat. ✔️ . 1️⃣ By elevating one foot we get a greater range of motion. By adding this “stretch” to the muscle it challenges hip mobility and promotes muscle growth. Full ROM in all movements is essential for muscle growth. This promotes the “eccentric” or the negative part of the exercise. Without a good eccentric contraction, we leave a huge component of the muscle building processon the table. We ALL want this because muscle gives us the “TONED” (hate that word) look. Also good ROM improves flexibility! 2️⃣ With only one dumbbell hanging at the side of the back leg, we challenge the opposite glute and obliques. If you find yourself falling over, it’s mostly a lack of core stability. Side planks and regular planks will help that.✔️ . You should always challenge movements in different ways. I love the split squat because it’s unilateral and helps with asymmetries. Core training: The Deadbug. - Avoid looking like this during the deadbug! - This is a really common fault I see with the deadbug! Arms all over the place and very little tension in the core. - Low the low back into the ground, keep the non moving limbs still and feel a burn 🔥🔥 in your tummy whilst doing some really good core strengthening and stability work 💪💪 - Side note: really pleased with this post ha, freeze frame and everrrayting
Little dumbbell complex finisher from today's session. Renegade rows, reverse lunges and dumbbell press.. When doing renegade rows, see how I am not shifting my weight from one side to the other. Hips stay nice and still, core nice and strong, abs engaged and sweep the elbow back. Keep it strict. Whilst doing my lunges, you can see I don't kick off from the back foot. Weight stays on the front heel, and drive from there. Dumbbell press is also strict. No kyphotic curve in the back, no help from the knees and keeping the abs engaged and strong. MOVE OF THE DAY: Lateral Narrow Squat Lunge . There was a time when I could not do this exercise in large part because of my lupus induced arthritis. Plyo movements would wreak havoc on my joints. With the change in diet to while foods, consuming superfoods everyday, using all natural anti-inflammatory supplements and consistent strength training has strengthened my joints and decreased the inflammation. . Yesterday my knee was inflamed and in pain from lifting heavy during my workout. Sometimes lifting heavy puts a a shock to my system in the lupus acts up. I drank my superfood protein shake last night. Added in some extra anti-inflammatories, blueberries, MCT oil, turmeric and cinnamon and I woke up today feeling great!!! . TIPS for this exercise: 1. Movement pattern is Squat, lateral jump, jump lunge (inside leg) feet together and repeat to other side . 2. Keep a 90 degree angle when you go into your lunge . 3. Knees behind the toes in both in the squat and lunge. . 4. Land on the balls of your feet . 5. Chest up and eyes forward . Modification: remove the jump or decrease the depth of the squat and lunge. . #moveoftheday #exerciseclip #tiptuesday

Everybody wants to be the hero of their story. I think, especially in times when we crave the validation so badly, it’s actually more helpful to have support on your side. As you probably already know, I’m rehabbing an injury, and I’m starting to feel really good again. Like, pain free in formerly crippling positions kinda good. My anticipation is building, my excitement is evident, and I want to start pushing boundaries. It’s exactly the wrong time for that. As evidenced here, I am vastly weaker on one side, and while there is no physical pain, the clear and evident discrepancy is humbling. So, my solution is to keep listening to @jb_dpt0223 - seriously, if you’re looking to get fixed in Lexington, message me for his contact info bc there’s no substituting for his knowledge, ability, and experience - and build a stronger base. First you hinge back from the hips (not the lumbar spine that's not easy if you are not used to do it only from the hips 😉) and then you bend your knees in to a #fullsquat if possible while the hands are sliding at the wall.
