Field of Dreams:
What is and what once was paired together for this incredible scene. And old truck that has lived its life tenfold resting among the fleeting beauty of Maine’s lupines. —
This is a shot that almost never was. I saw a post on social media only partially describing this area, but it was enough to try and find it on what was most likely the last night of the year this image could be made. The flowers of the lupines should be falling off any day now, and the moon now extends late enough into the night to severely hamper getting a clean MilkyWay shot. —-
Armed with a camera and a general sense of direction in drive to what I guessed would be the general area for this scene, almost 2.5 hours away from home. I drove around an additional hour looking around, and only upon beginning to drive home did I notice this sweet scene tucked away in my side view mirror. So I quickly u-turned and drove in. Still not knowing what I was in for, I got really excited that my crazy adventure to somewhere I literally had no idea about would line up perfectly with the Milky Way!! I only had to wait 3 hours for the moon to set. That was a long 3 hours. But it was worth it!!!
I had to pull out the stops for this shot, as flood lights from a nearby building dominated the scene, so I used my own LED light to overpower those lights and set my exposure accordingly to get a clean foreground then did a median stack of ten images for the sky.
