I’m feeling a little sad today thinking about how lush and green my potted mint was before I left for #vegas . After a week of neglect when my husband forgot to water it at all, it doesn’t look like this anymore. It’s completely burnt up now except for the tip tops of the branches. I hope some TLC will get it back to its former glory, but I’m not holding out hope because I’m not the best gardener. 😣 Does anyone have any tips?
Now, I’m totally not knocking restrictive healing diets; there’s a time and need for following these diets for a variety of gut disorders. . But, often times people (including myself) will blindly follow very restrictive diets for way longer than necessary out of fear of worsening their condition if they expand their food options. . I spent three years following a strict SCD/low-FODMAP diet, where I ate the same three meals every day. . I was instructed by a medical professional to follow these diets to help my SIBO. However, she never gave me a timeline or plan of action to start introducing more foods. . This severe restriction lead to a fear of foods outside what I thought were my safe foods. . Looking back, I don’t think I needed to so severely restrict so many food groups. I would have been much better off figuring out what foods I reacted to and removing them while I worked on healing my gut. . There are so many healing diets out there (like SCD, low-FODMAP, SIBO specific, Cedars-Sinai), and it can be so confusing to figure out which one is best for you. . If you’re having gut issues and trying to decide which healing diet to go on, I would challenge you to use them as a template to figure out which foods you react to and only eliminate those. . There is so much bio-individuality around gut issues, so no one diet is going to work for everyone. . And eliminating foods will only reduce your symptoms, but will not actually get rid of the overgrowth or dysbiosis. . So, don’t worry so much about what diet your on. But work to heal your gut and determine your root cause, and remove those reactive foods only while you need to. . Food is your friend, not something to fear!

Ghee! Yesterday on my stories I walked through how to make homemade ghee for a fraction of the price you normally find it at the grocery store. How do I use this golden goodness? Although I don’t let hashimotos define me, I will be so happy to know that I put in so much work to reverse it. ⠀⠀ A key part in this was a drastic change in my diet, but I believe it was also the focus on emotional healing. I committed to finding the root of the problem and I work towards it every single day. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I learned to speak my truth. I learned to set boundaries with toxic people. I CHANGED for the better. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ My next step is hopefully coming off thyroid medication in the next year. I’m manifesting and working hard towards healing my body to get to this point. No- you do not have to take pills for the rest of your life and there is another answer.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Your illness is hard. Update on my #AIP process. 😀Last week my Functional medicine doctor muscle tested me for heavy metals and EMFs, after coming to the end of a 12 week autoimmune gut healing/liver detox protocol . Heavy metals and EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) were the things we discovered were draining my energy when I first went to see this doctor . Happy to report that they are no longer an issue for me at this time . As far as the autoimmune protocol goes (the goal of this protocol is to stop my immune system from creating thyroid antibodies) I am in the reintroduction phase now so the first thing I chose to try were eggs . They don’t seem to be causing any issue either, yes! So, butter is next, then tomatoes, then nuts . The goal with reintroducing one food per week is to take the time to see if there are any reactions . So far so good. Two years ago in July 2016 right after my college graduation I received my diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogren’s Syndrome after a year of ignoring warning signs and the state of my health. I was 22 and I remember thinking “Is this it? Is this what my life is going to be?” The pharmaceutical option laid out by my doctor at the time didn’t sit right with me and my condition was rapidly deteriorating with intense joint pain, anxiety, diarrhea, insomnia, fatigue, and brain fog to name a few. I knew something needed to change ASAP ✨ . . I gave AIP a go as a hail mary effort. I was intrigued with the idea of food as medicine but questioned whether I’d be able to stick with it. Within three days I noticed 80% of my pain in my feet was gone. As someone who had spent the past year with constant pain this was HUGE. That little taste of how my symptoms could improve was enough to encourage me that this was working, that this diet as difficult as it was at first was worth it ✨ . . My favorite part about the autoimmune protocol is that we are empowered to take control of our own health after so many of us have been controlled by our symptoms. I manage my autoimmunity but for too long I let it define me. Autoimmune disease is just one part of your story and it has shaped you but it is not all you will ever be. We are more than halfway through our trip out West. It's been exactly what I was hoping and needing: time with family I love, lots of good food, and - for the first time ever - hot yoga!! I have been practicing for a year but finally, finally, got into a studio while on vacay. And of course, I love it!! . Speaking of HOT, even though it's hot, that doesn't mean you have to - or even should - abandon warm food entirely. I personally enjoy my hot tea or bone broth just as much in the summer months as in the winter. Dandelion Leaf and Root Tea + Peppermint Tea = soothing herbal mixture for your stomach. 2 bags in 1 mug because why not reap the benefits of both at the same time? I used to always drink tea to soothe my stomach pains, and recently I’ve just stopped. We were out in the yard the majority of the day yesterday working on our sprinkler system and then crashed for 2 hours so I was lazy lastnight and used leftovers making raw veggie tacos again. One thing I might add, if you fill celery with pico it acts as if it is a chip with some salsa on it. 👍 Symptoms: Exhaustion. This Texas heat is no bueno for Mo. Since CIDP is in the family of MS I have some pretty bad heat intolerances which sucks because I love being outdoors more than the average person.
