this sphinx was a (probably/definitely stolen) gift to the Roman Emperor Diocletian living in Diocletian’s Palace in Split, Croatia circa 290 BC. the Sphinx originated from the tomb of Pharaoh Thutmose III, who died in 1425 BC. that’s not a replica, people. that’s amazing // #35mm #film
shot by me in Split, Croatia
as i sat by the fishing docks eating my breakfast alone, i noticed a group of loud, laughing tourists. the bright colors they were wearing and the color of the flowers blooming behind them had me SHOOK. i approached them and kindly asked if any of them spoke english. one of them said “a little” so i gestured as i asked them if i could take a picture of them by the bench. i pointed to myself, the camera, to them, and to the bench. they quickly caught on and they were THRILLED that i wanted to take their picture!!!!! they sat and posed on the bench, and we took turns taking pictures of/with each other on our phones. the best part about iphones i think is that airdrop is universal. so even though i didn’t understand the symbols on their phones, i still was able to airdrop our pictures back and forth. i learned all their names and gave them all the biggest hugs before we said our goodbyes. and that’s the reason why i have a picture of 7 beautiful Chinese grandmothers on my roll of film 🎞❤️
