Today I found myself in a writing rut. I wasn't inspired, my characters were feeling boring, and I just wanted to do everything else besides write. I know this happens to a lot of people, because I've seen several of you share similar stories.
This is how I get out of that rut.
I turn on some motivational music, set a timer for 15 minutes, and just type what I can before the timer goes off. I give myself permission to stop after the timer is done because at least I showed up for those 15 minutes.
MOST of the time when I do this, I get hit with inspiration about 10 minutes into the writing session. This is what happened today, and those 15 minutes turned into 1 hour! Sometimes all we need to do to be inspired is to actually sit our butts down and do the work. And even if your muse doesn't decide to visit you, at least you are 15 minutes closer to finishing your book!
What are some tricks you use to get out of writings ruts?
