May 29th-30th of 1918 the Greek and the French army attack the Skra fortified positions along Mount Paiko. The Greek army not to big just recently joined the war and haven’t had a huge battle yet. The Macedonian front or the Salonica front is kind of forgotten or not even talked about. Greece would play a major factor on the front and how it turned out. During the battle of Skra-di-Legen the Greek army would to composed of 3 division, Archipelago commanded by Dimitrios loannou, the Crete commanded by Panagiotis Spilidais, and finally the Serres diction commanded by Emmanouil Zymvrakakis the leader of the Greek National Defence. The Greek army would be joined along with one French army which I don’t know the name of. In the opening hours of May 29th 1918 an artillery strike by the Greeks would strike Bulgarian positions in preparation of an assault on the Bulgarians. The next day on May 30th 1918, all 3 Greek divisions and the French brigade would all push towards Skra completely surrounding the Bulgarian army, however this didn’t stop the Bulgarians attempting counter attacks. The counter attack would be failures as the Crete division held good defense leading to the Bulgarian army surrendering. After the battle of Skra-di-Legen the Greek army would eventually begin full mobilization of there troops on the Macedonian front.
#EmperorsOfIndia , #Vikramaditya established Vikram Samvat - the Vikram Calendar in 57 BC. Vikrama Aditya means ‘sun of valour’ or the one as powerful as the sun. The legend of this king is mentioned in many books like ’Jyotividabharan’, ‘Singhasan Batteesy and ‘Bettal Pacheesy’. Later on, many kings like Emperor Chandragupta II, King Bhoj of Dahar and King Siddhraj Jai Singh adopted the title Vikramaditya... History time _________________________ Mavromichalis origins We have heard about the famous Petrobeys Mavromichalis and his family that contributed in the Greek revolution of 1821, but where they derive from?According to the Maniot tradition, the first members of the clan were refugees from the community of Kardias in Eastern Thrace who escaping from the Turkish attacks in 1452, resettled in Western Mani. The name Mavromichalis is said to derive from an orphan male youngster named Michalis, since all orphan youngsters were called mavros which means black because of using dark clothes for mourning, so from this mavro Michalis future generations bore the name of Mavromichalis which simply means Black Michael but signifying Michael the orfan. Initially they established in Alica, but due to blood feuds and conflicts they moved to Tsimova in the eastern part of the Messinian Gulf and from there to their final destination in the seaside village of Limeni where they made their stronghold. #history #historynerd #historylover #historygeek #historybuff #historylesson #historychannel #historytour #historygram #historyinthemaking #historic #historical #historyteacher #historia #historyera #historyiscool #history2 #historylovers #greece #greecelover_gr #travel_greece #greecestagram #greecetravelgr1_ #great_captures_greece #loves_greece #perfect_greece #travel #Mani #mani_peninsula #μανη

The Karabiner 98 kurz is a bolt-action rifle chambered for the 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge that was adopted on 21 June 1935 as the standard service rifle by the German Wehrmacht. It was one of the final developments in the long line of Mauser military rifles. Although supplemented by semi- and fully automatic rifles during World War II, it remained the primary German service rifle until the end of the war in 1945. Millions were captured by the Soviets at the conclusion of World War II and were widely distributed as military aid. The Karabiner 98k therefore continues to appear in conflicts across the world as they are taken out of storage during times of strife #historybuff #historygeek #militaryhistory #military #history #mauser #worldwarII #worldwar2 #wwII #ww2 #ww2history #secondworldwar #metaldetecting #treasurehunting #treasurehunt #wehrmacht #luftwaffe #waffenss #artifact #dirtfishing #relics #k98 #tank #rifle #worldwartwo #youtuber

Regrann from @taraross1787 - On this day in 1969, Neil Armstrong becomes the first man to walk on the moon. The effort was spurred by John F. Kennedy’s famous 1961 speech, encouraging the nation to “commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.” What a goal! At the time, #NASA wasn’t even 3 years old. Following Kennedy’s speech, a few manned missions went into space. Unfortunately, one met with disaster when Apollo 1 caught fire during a preflight test. Three astronauts were killed. Finally, on July 16, 1969, #Apollo11 was launched with three men aboard: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin. The trip to the moon, combined with efforts to prepare for a lunar landing, took about 100 hours. On July 20, the lunar module was launched from the command module with Armstrong and Aldrin aboard. No one knew what to expect! How would Armstrong and Aldrin move around in the low gravity? Would the space suits keep them cool? (It was 200 degrees Fahrenheit out there!) Armstrong was the first to actually walk on the moon. He famously noted that it was “one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” Aldrin soon followed. Both men spoke to Richard Nixon while they were there—effectively the first phone call from the Earth to the moon! “Because of what you have done,” Nixon told them, “the heavens have become part of man’s world.” Armstrong and Aldrin spent a few hours on the moon before finally beginning their trek home. The Apollo 11 crew returned to Earth on July 24. They were the first to make the journey to the moon and back! #Kennedy didn’t live to see it, but surely he would have been proud! Regrann from @the_amateur_historian - NASA Astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin @drbuzzaldrin is shown in this photograph taken by fellow Astronaut Neil Armstrong as he proceeds to salute the flag of the United States, which was planted on the lunar surface by Armstrong and Aldrin after they became the first two human beings in history ever to step foot on another celestial body. Image taken in Mare Tranquillitatis, on the surface of the moon, 250,000 miles from the Earth. July 21th 1969. The two Astronauts landed on July 20th 1969 and had spent a total of 21.5 hours on the lunar surface until they rejoined fellow Astronaut Michael Collins back in lunar orbit, and after that the three successfully returned to Earth. When Armstrong first placed his boot on the lunar surface and spoke his legendary words, the entire world watched with awe and wonder. Humanity at long last had earned its greatest achievement: We succeeded in getting men on the moon for the first time. How many people in history had simply looked up during a clear night and longed for the chance to explore the stars themselves? How many never realized their dreams to see all there is to see out there in the heavens? Although Aldrin and Armstrong obviously didn't explore much of the heavens, they did honor US President John F. Kennedy's pledge to land men on the moon before the end of the 1960s and also successfully return them safely to the Earth, and they brought glory not only to their own nation but to the human race entire. The astronauts of Apollo 11 will forever go down in history as being some of the brave men who helped the human race take their first steps into a universe ripe for exploration, and as long as humanity has history books names such as Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, Michael Collins and every other man who was an Apollo Astronaut will always have a mention. _______________________________ #spaceflight #coldwarera #spacerace #nasa #apollo #apollo11 #neilarmstrong #buzzaldrin #michaelcollins #spacehistory #space #thefinalfrontier #ushistory #americanhistory #history #historicphotography #historiansunion #united_historians #historyphotos #themoon #unitedstates #sovietunion #historybuff

Czechoslovakia being landlocked and with no large rivers flowing through it (the Danube River formed a small part of its border), its naval forces were small throughout the entirety of it's history and consisted only of riverine craft operating on the Danube and the upper Elbe. -------------------------------------------- The Czechoslovak Legion that were together with the Entente forces during the First World War, in the Russian Far East possessed in 1918 a maritime section of two steamers and an icebreaker, based at Vladivostok, which were used for transport. In 1918 the Czechoslovak Legion, during their trek across Russia in the middle of the Russian Civil War, seized two steamers on Lake Baikal, which were armed with howitzers. Engaging with Red forces based on the port of Mysovaya, Russia, — Czechoslovak Legion forces sank the icebreaker Baikal. As I walked through the Heart of Rome, I came across the Trevi Fountain where you can see the sculpture standing in between, representing the ocean and as rumor has it Roman’s affair with water! Nicola Salvi conceived this baroque background in 1762. Water apparently gushes from 24 spouts and the horses & wind signify the waves. People used to come here in ancient times to collect water. One of the speculations about why Romans are crazy about fountains & water is because during war, the opponents would cut off the aqueducts so the Romans wanted to ensure that in case of a siege they were self-sufficient 💦 Every corner you turn, Rome doesn’t cease to amaze you with its grandeur, history and magnificence! . . . #roma #italy #trevifountain #historybuff #travelgirl #wheninrome #baroque #travel #travelbug #travelbook #travelersnotebook #traveling #travelove #travelbug #travelphotography #travelgram #travelersnotebook #traveldiaries #traveljournal #travelblog #travelblogger #timeisnow #indianblogger #traveljunkie #hippiehappielove

Image taken in a residence in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Circa 1986. Ferrato, who had been taking photographs of incidents of domestic violence for over twenty years, later claimed that this was the most powerful image she had ever taken in her entire career. #fbf 🏟This is one of my favorite pics from our trip last October! Standing high above the ancient Roman ruins, with the colosseum in the distance, highlighted by the sunset! 💚I left a piece of my heart back in Rome-- I will return to get it one day! ❤️ Who knows, I just might stay there?!? 🇮🇹 . . . . #tripofalifetime #roma #rome #italy #trip #vacation #roman #colosseum #ruins #ancient #bc #history #historybuff #instagay #gayvacation #gaytravel #gaycouple #gaymen #internationalgay #gaylife #lifestyle #travel #travelphotography #wanderlust
