Love using our @thepeachbuilderco bands to add a little extra burn into glute bridges. 💗🍑 • As we have talked about before glute bridges are such an excellent exercise in a pre and post natal setting; they activate the glutes, are a simple and effective way to do pelvic floor exercises and help with the mind-muscle connection with your glutes and pelvic floor. Something many people struggle with. Add in your core breath and they are also a great way to activate your deeper core muscles. • The most important part of this exercise is your breathing. 1. Start by lying comfortably on your back, knees up, feet hip width apart. 2. Inhale for 4 seconds 3. Exhale, pushing your ribs down towards your hips, dispersing air out towards your sides. Spine is now flat on the mat. 4. Continue to exhale, squeeze glutes and lift. 5. Continue to exhale and hold the position for about 8 seconds. 6. You should also feel your pelvic floor come on. If not focus on pulling your perineum up, while you are squeezing, lifting & exhaling. 7. Lot of running injuries stem from having weak feet, believe it or not. Although cushioned shoes and orthotics can correct some of your biomechanical issues, they might lead to decline in your foot strength and proprioception. @naboso_australia insoles are a great solution if you can’t train barefoot or wear minimal shoes. Day 40/80 Cardio Core Done! 💥 Finally I am half way through the program! Sometimes it's easier to get caught up in mileage or speed and we forget the importance of strengthening the rest of our body. 🏋️‍♀️ It might not be as fun as running some days, but cross training is so incredibly important to prevent running injuries. I just wish I had learned that lesson years ago! 80 Day Obsession has not only made me stronger physically, but also mentally. 💪🧠 My runs have seen an improvement since I have started focusing on cross training. Yes, this happened today!! On the double black diamond Commando course at Tree Runner Adventure park in West Bloomfield. This was the most physically challenging obstacle, it was crazy, lol. It doesn't look like much, but good gracious...😳 The last time I went climbing through the trees I was scared and really battled fear along the way. I wouldn't even attempt going past the blue course, lol. This time very little fear and all about the challenge! Poverty + Emotional Eating // I grew up poor and while we always had food to eat, it wasn’t always available in abundance. My 5 siblings and I survived (and thrived) on ramen, fried bologna sandwiches, and corn flakes when my mom’s income as a single parent wasn’t enough to pay the bills + put a hot meal on the table. When I grew up, I swore my life would be different, but 6.5 years ago, I found myself homeless with a newborn baby after leaving a financially abusive relationship. I survived on rice and beans from my local food pantry and thanked my lucky stars that my body was able to produce enough breast milk to feed my son. Since then things have ebbed and flowed - being an entrepreneur is great until a client doesn’t pay an invoice on time. ▫️ I share this because in the nutrition world, diet culture is talked about quite frequently when discussing issues around food and eating, and while it plays a major role for many women, it’s not the only reason some of us feel crazy and out of control around food. You see, deprivation (real or perceived) almost always leads to a binge. In my case, cycles of poverty have led to binges that look like spending entire paychecks on food for fear that I wouldn’t have enough to eat, and eating more than what is normal for my body because “what if I don’t have the money to buy this particular food again.” It’s taken a lot of awareness, unpacking, and behavior change to create what (for me) is a normal relationship with food and eating. ▫️ These are the kind of issues we’ll be unpacking in Nourish - the emotional eating course I’m facilitating for women of color through @bghproject. W A R M I N G • ma cockles with the chilly 6c this am. I made myself a delicious spiced cacao. - Cacao contains flavanols which are derivatives of polyphenols these are chemicals that make up fruit and vegetables and have been known for their range of biological activities that help with reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Flavanols are present in cacao and have evidence to suggest powerful antioxidant properties (these substances help rid of your body’s “nuclear” waste). Cacao also has a small dose of potassium which is essential for blood pressure control, functions in the kidneys and nerve and heart function are a few of the key benefits. It also contains some magnesium which is essential in our diet to help with muscle contractions, including post-exercise recovery, cramps and also sleep. - Ingredients 400 milliliters Coconut Milk 1 tablespoon cacao powder 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (add more or less depending on how much spice you like) 1 teaspoon manuka honey/coconut syrup/maple syrup - instructions: In a small sauce pan, medium-high heat, gently heat the coconut milk until it is hot but not boiling. Whilst coconut milk is heating. In a large mug add a splash more coconut milk (tbsp max) add cacao, cinnamon, cayenne and sweetener of choice and stir vigorously to ensure it makes a smooth paste. When coconut milk is hot but not boiling add to mug and stir well. Sit back and enjoy. - You can buy all ingredients (apart from cayenne) from @mrvitamins Rx
