MAXIMUM MUSCLE GROWTH BY @musclemonsters   _  The overall consensus is that, as a natural trainee, you can expect to gain 40-50lbs of total muscle mass in your lifetime. According to Lyle McDonald, author of The Protein Book, we can expect to achieve half of that (20-25lbs) growth in the first 12 months. Alan Aragon, another expert in the field, suggested roughly the same thing—18-27lbs in your first year. _  In his book The Max Muscle Plan, Brad Schoenfeld suggests that for a novice lifter to gain 15 pounds of muscle (or more) within the first six months is not unusual.  _  The further into your training you get, however, the less and less muscle you can expect to build from year to year. 💥How to get big with a small appetite💥 . I used to weigh 115-pounds up until I was 19 years old. . I thought I would never gain weight until I learned how to properly combine strength training and get my body to achieve a daily caloric surplus on a daily basis. . If only I had people like @mattmcleod6 back in the day to guide me in my fitness aspirations … . If you’re trying to add more muscle to your body, do yourself a favor and read his full post below and avoid the same struggles I had when starting your fitness journey. . #Repost @mattmcleod6 : . Believe it or not, some people struggle with eating enough. People have the illusion that they “eat a lot” and never gain weight. But what they’re likely doing is eating a lot in one meal, but not eating much the rest of the day. Or they eat a ton one day and subconsciously eat less the next day. . To combat this, which I’ve actually not included in the picture, I highly recommend tracking your calories and your weight. Stop “guessing” or “thinking” you eat a lot - you need to KNOW you’re eating enough on a daily basis. . To add some tips to the graphic: . 🔹Eat smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day 🔹Start eating within an hour of waking. Even if it’s just a shake. 🔹Figure out how to cook and actually enjoy the foods you’re eating. Use sauces and oils (they contain calories) to your advantage. 🔹Create a meal schedule that takes the guesswork and willpower out of when and what you’re going to eat. For myself and my clients, I like to suggest eating the same first couple meals of the day and leaving dinner up for grabs based on what I’m feeling. 🔹Eat the shitty fast food if your options are slim. You will be okay. 🔹Stop doing a ton of cardio if you are. This is defeating the purpose. Some LISS a couple times a week is fine, but dont overdo it. . You have to start taking your eating seriously if this is an issue for you. Make an effort each day to eat enough. That consistency over time is key.
Why you need it Wednesday. - Why do you need to try different variations of workouts? Can’t you just stick to the same thing and add weight? - Yes and no. Adding weight will increase the work you do and the amount of micro tears you make in your muscles, but you want to switch the method up too! - This will keep your body guessing. Keep you from plateauing and getting bored. If you aren’t seeing progress or getting bored, chances of you continuing are low. - Been using free weights for a few months? Throw in some cable exercises and vice versa. - Keep your body guessing and keep moving forward!
