I’ve reached my goal weight and at this point, I just want to continue to improve in all aspects of fitness. It truly changed my life for the better. I’m no longer that depressed girl I once was. I’ve gained so much confidence and self love through this journey. I use to start certain things, but never stuck to it. It’s a blessing that this one time was different. I’m falling in love with the idea of self care. Again, I’m not perfect. There are days where I feel extremely unmotivated, but it doesn’t compare to the times I felt unmotivated and it persisted for a long period of time. This time is different because I really got know myself and when I feel the slightest “down” feeling, I jump up and act fast. I refuse to feel pity from anyone including myself. I remind myself how strong I am every time I drive myself to that gym. It became my norm. Anything worth it requires work. Let me reintroduce myself! I am certified as a Personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports medicine. I spent years battling myself, my weight going up & down. I hated exercise & sweating. I told myself my body just wants to be fat. I wanted to be "skinny". Then everything would be perfect. My Dr. Scared me into changing when she told me I was prediabetic. I started slowly by doing work out videos at home until I found something I loved. For me it was @powerstrike
From there I went to the gym w/a friend & fell in love w/Zumba & Kettlebells! My diet didn't change for about 6 mo. I would reward myself after workouts. I started realizing I had to accept accountability for my actions. That led to better food choices. I realized I will always have a battle w/food & had to be ok w/that. I also changed my mindset from thinking i need to be skinny to i need to be healthy. Exercise has helped me not only physically but mentally. Its an awesome stress reliever. My training is in developing a strong core & stabilization w/resistance training & body weight training. This is especially important for women. A strong core protects us as we age. I wanted to share this video to show you the progress portion of my journey, and to remind you that amongst the sea of perfectly planned and conducted fitness photos/videos on instagram, there is imperfection.
I’ve been working on being able to do unassisted pull-ups/chin-ups for a few months now, and I’ve definitely made a lot of progress, but I’m not quite there yet. And that’s perfectly fine. Every single one of us starts from square one at some point. I started with having absolutely no upper body strength whatsoever. I’m sharing these in between moments with you to show you more of the real side of fitness/working out.
This particular pull-up bar is just barely out of my reach, which makes it a lot harder to start from as I have to be on my toes. I’ve managed to do a couple chin ups when I’ve been able to start standing flat, but starting from hanging is a whole new challenge. But I’m not giving up on it.
I want to remind you that in moments like this, it’s easy to feel defeated, like you’ll never reach your goal (whatever that may be), or that it’s taking you longer than so and so.. but we all have our own path, and our own timeline. Whatever amount of time it takes you is the right amount of time, regardless of how much faster someone else did it. We all have different factors working for or against us.
Keep going, and try not to let moments of defeat knock you off track completely. When I first started trying these, I’d use the assisted pull-up machine and take 55lbs off of my body weight, which was still challenging at the time. Now I’m allllmost able to do it completely on my own. Practice = progress! 🥇🧗🏻♀️💪🏻

There are young girls, teenagers, young women coming up behind us and they are depending on us to show them the way. Younger and younger they are feeling the pressures to look a certain way and fit a certain mold. .
Let’s mirror true beauty. Let’s teach them to be healthy. Let’s teach them they are amazing and strong and have beautiful souls. Let’s teach them to speak life, to themselves and to others. .
